Some post-Halloween notes:
I missed out on the openings of Saw and The Grudge this weekend so I might just take in a matinee today – yeah this is the stuff I can pull without a day job. If neither works for me, I still have Doom 3 – the scariest video game ever made. I didn’t mention it in my previous post about this subject, but this classic of a game gives me the chills like no movie ever has – especially when I play it at 3 in the morning, with the lights off, in my underwear. I love this game so much I have stopped playing it for now, just so it’ll last longer, no joke.

Someone sent me my first guest comic or “fan art” as some call it. Head on over to the forums to check it out. The dude’s name is Shane “Inkmonkey” Woodis – he draws his own great comic called Elijah and Azuu… check that out too. I love the strip he drew for me cuz it totally captures the spirit of aLp, while throwing his own style all over it. Thanks, Inkmonkey!

Something that’s been grabbing more and more of my attention is that even though aLp’s about NYC, I get a decent percentage of visits comin from the U.K…. too many to dismiss as an anomaly. A good number of sites out there have plugged us, and then of course there was that BBC radio thing. I’m not exactly sure why aLp’s got so much appeal over there, all I know is I’m glad to have youz all. Regarding today’s episode, I hope you know who William Hung is. Or on second thought… nah, it’s better off if you don’t.

The Red Sox could win the World Series tonight in a sweep over the Cardinals, which would signal Armageddon. The Sox winning a championship would be like Charlie Brown getting to kick the football, or Gilligan getting off the island. It’s just not supposed to happen. Lucy, pull away that football!!

Incidentally, a sadistically assaholic friend of mine, trying to re-open recent wounds, sends me this letter, which he had originally sent to another friend of his, a huge Yankee fan.

I have an off-topic question that I was hoping you could clear up for me. I have been desperately searching for the Yankees in the World Series on TV the past few nights. There have been other baseball games on, but I can’t seem to find any featuring the Yankees. I even personally went to a World Series game on Sunday night, just to see the Yankees – but as it turned out, it was in Fenway Park, not Yankee Stadium, which I found strange.

I remember you saying that the Yankees were going to be in the World Series sometime in late October. Can you tell me what time/channel I should be watching so I can see them? That Derek Jeter is such a cutie.

Plus, I would hate to miss such a significant moment in our nation’s sporting history.

Okay, since I get tired easy of staring at the same comic up here, aLp is now going to 3 new episodes per week, instead of 2. 3 is better than 2. 3 chews up 2 and spits it out. Is anyone else looking forward to Saw, the horror flick by rookie director James Wan opening this Friday? I’m a horror buff, but no horror movie has ever really scared me (since Poltergeist when I was like 7). I’ve boiled down my problem to the following (regarding horror movies only): 1) I don’t have the patience for “slow-building suspense”, 2) I don’t feel like I should have to use my imagination to fill in what the director won’t show me, and 3) I know that I, as the viewer, will survive the movie. A lot of the so-called best horror movies of all time rely heavily on #1 and #2, so I didn’t like them. Maybe I’m an idiot, fine, but I’m just telling you what I’d rather see, in the absence of a solution to #3.

I wanna be shown scary shit for 2 hours straight. Like the girl in Elm St. getting dragged up the wall and onto the ceiling, and the Exorcist spider-walk, and the crazy Japanese bitch at the end of Audition… non-stop. A “roller-coaster” horror movie should be just that – a short bit of spine-tingling ascent, and then just screaming and absurdity for the rest of the way. A roller coaster is not 80% slow climb, spent wondering when the ride starts.

So anyway, I hear “Saw” isn’t afraid to show you scary shit. Anyone have any other suggestions for me?

New strip. It was pouring the day I went out to take a pic of Andromeda on St. Mark’s… I goofed off for hours at the comic store to wait out the rain, and I finally snapped a decent shot. This is what one does without a day job.

So… does anyone know why they got rid of the forward-facing seats on the new subway cars? If they were expendable, why did they have ‘em in the first place?
