IT’S ANOTHER GUEST COMIC

Argh, I’m really blowin’ it these days, I start up this crazy new storyline and I’m killin’ the momentum by doin’ stuff like goin’ on vacation and havin’ personal issues and whatever.

So I gotta miss this Tuesday update proper but GOOD THING Marianne Petit got me this guest piece to fill the void! Marianne’s a NYC-based artist who’s got tons of projects going on… the webcomic that first brought her to my attention was the very personal and beautiful black & white 716, which was all about life in her rent-stabilized Manhattan apartment.

I love how Preston’s got his knees squished together in the middle seat like that, and especially how Marianne captured how awful sitting in that corner seat Abe’s sitting in is. And of course the shout-out on that PSA ad is a crowd-pleaser.

Edit, Fri. 9/4: I said I wanted to have something else up today, but holy hell, did I fail. New original comic on Tuesday for sure.

HEY WHAT’S UP IT’S GUEST WEEK

I took this week off to recharge so I’ve got a few pals filling in for me. Today it’s Amelia Altavena, who does a spunky journal comic called Sketch Fervor. It’s a bit unpolished, but it’s got an unmistakable style and voice that tickles me in the funny bones. This one kinda sums up who Amelia is in all her dorky, cowboy-boot-wearing, drunken, glamorous hick glory. Checkitout!

Edit: I blew the file upload last night so the bottom part of Amelia’s comic was cut off. Sorry to Amelia and any of you who came by before around 1:30pm ET on Fri. when I finally fixed it…

HEY WHAT’S UP IT’S GUEST WEEK

I’m taking this week off to recharge so I’ve got a few pals filling in for me. Today we’ve got Bryan (artist) and Dern (writer) from the brand-spankin’ new Hello With Cheese, a (usually) one-panel comic that’s a real hoot – actually five hoots a week, as they’ve just taken the plunge to go weekdaily. Go check em out!

Note that while I’ve always counted all past guest comics as official numbered aLp updates, I don’t have to do that anymore now that the site’s on WordPress. So while I’m gonna keep those old ones the way they are so I don’t have to re-number the whole archive, this week’s guest spots won’t count as #298 and #299 cuz then #300 would be on us too fast and I feel like I’m not ready to join the over-300 club just yet.

It’s Ryan Estrada Day 2008! One year ago today the loony Estrada took over webcomicland singlehandedly, and this year he took the lunacy to another level by doing 70 new guest comics, including the one above. Here’s a list (as of now, in progress) of the others. The dude is crazy. RyanEstrada.com.

Today’s guest spot comes from the totally insane Ryan Estrada, who is taking over the entire internet today with guest comics. Ryan’s also the proprietor of Cartoon Commune, where they take Custom Comic Comissions. Completely crazy!

Today’s episode comes by David Malki of Wondermark, a comic that kicks a good amount of ass.

I had a blast at UberCon VII, hangin’ out with talented folks like Bryan, Lee, Phil, Rob and T, and sitting on a webcomics panel together with ‘em where we got to listen to T talk. The Aliens board game session I ran was a highlight – I played with 4 guys who all knew each other and had a rockin time blowing away swarms of aliens. The guy playing Crowe kept forgetting how fast the aliens moved and got his ass pounced on 3 straight turns, but his teammates kept bailing out the lucky bastard. The guy playing Wierzbowski kept mispronouncing “Wierzbowski.” And the black guy kept complaining it was racist that he was “randomly” given Apone and Frost, the only 2 black marines.

Good times! If they’ll have me back I’ll be there for UC VIII in October. Hope to see ya there.
