Man, last week was one of the 3 worst weeks I’ve had in the 12 years I’ve been at my job. And it ain’t over! I mean there’s a light at the end of the tunnel, but the road there is lined with death and decay, I’m running on empty and I’m in New Jersey where you’re not allowed to pump your own gas, and there’s no attendants around.

Otherwise, things are just great! Woooo. Like I said I need to kick the site back into gear and as long as things at work don’t keep blowing up I wanna get to all that. Gotta go now but stay tuned, seriously. Thanks…!

Oops, a day late with this one… sorry but on Monday I was enjoying a perfect day at the Bronx Zoo with Elaine and the kids, so I didn’t get the chance to finish this one up in time. One nice moment was when Elaine, perhaps still appreciating the excellent movie we saw recently, said, “look at the size of that vulcan!” It was a vulture.

Another Friday update! WhAAAAT?

When Lindsay Lohan (a supporter of Barack Obama) used the word “colored” to describe our current president during last year’s election season, she was roundly criticized for it… but Carla Sims, communication director for the D.C. branch of the NAACP, came to her defense, saying, “The term ‘colored’ is not derogatory. [The NAACP] chose the word ‘colored’ because it was the most positive description commonly used at that time. It’s outdated and antiquated but not offensive.” Well go call Al Sharpton “colored” and see what kind of reaction you get. Sims obviously said that because they’re just too lazy to change their name.

How many of you knew that while colored had always meant to refer to black people and has an arguably negative connotation… people of color means, more generally, “non-white” and is a term of pride? I only know because I’m one of these “people of color”, and only then because my cousin mentioned it once like 20 years ago. Anyway it’s questionable enough that we call white people white and black people black, but to say that everyone has “color” except for whites… ha ha sucks to be you white people.

Lastly, it’s lucky that there’s no more bans on interracial marriage because otherwise my (Caucasian) wife and her two sisters would be in big trouble, as they’ve all either married or are about to marry dudes of color.

Happy St. P’s Day!

Can someone tell me WHERE – if not in NYC proper, then anywhere near NYC – you can get a McDonald’s SHAMROCK SHAKE??

I’ve never even tried a Shamrock Shake before, but all I know is it looks really deliciously frightening, I’ve caught the fever from my buddy Dean, and I will not rest until I’ve had one. He found a website, shamrockshake.com, whose mission is to help people find McDonald’s locations that have it, but it’s almost completely useless.

In our research, we found a guy who’s apparently dedicating his life to uncovering the truth about why no McDonald’s restaurants in NYC carry them. He’s posted some variation of the following everywhere he could:

The reason NYC proper does not sell the shake has to do with political correctness. You have to understand how NY’ers are. If McDonald’s has a shake for St. Patrick’s Day, then they have to have one for every other ethnic group in NYC. Sounds nuts, but it’s true.

The “5 Boro” consortium of McDonald’s owners vote every year not sell the shake in the NYC area. That’s the real reason this shake is available in such places as Wal-Mart of Gibsonton, FL, but not on Fifth Ave NYC, home of the St. Patrick’s Day Parade.

People in NY are very race/ethnic conscious, and keep scorecard of every little thing that they can call “offensive”. Having a menu item for St.Patrick’s Day, but not the one for the Puerto Rican Day Parade, West Indies Parade, etc……..is just not how you do business in NYC in 2009.

Call me crazy, but that’s the truth people.

All I know is we will find it, if it takes us years. If a McD’s near you has it, GET SOME FOR ME AND SEND IT TO ME IN A COOLER.
