I would think that it goes into "Entertainment," but that's just me.
I like "Escaflowne" and "Inuyasha" as far as series go. For movies, "Princess Mononoke", "Vampire Hunter D", and "Blood, The Last Vampire". (Some of the imagery in "Blood" kinda reminds me of "Silent Hill")
But I haven't watched that much anime, so... _________________ "Yeast devil! Back to the oven that baked you!" |

Wow, you really are the perfect woman
@rommel: May I recommend Cowboy Bebop, Blue Gender and Martian Successor Nadesico in the TV / OVA stakes. For films try and find Roujin Z, Perfect Blue and Ghost In The Shell (though that one always depresses the hell out of me ). I'm assuming you've seen Akira, but if you haven't then do so. There's loads of great anime out there, and loads of crap too. Just watch anything you can, because you never know if you're gonna like it till you watch it. But be warned, this will start you on a path to geekdom that ends with you being shunned by the 'normals' for your vast collection of manga, action figures and imported RPGs. Oh and your webcomic addiction. _________________

I don't really watch much anime, but the best two movies I saw were Spriggan and Blue Submarine Nr. 6... I think that was manga... or something...

Sure, Mr. "Facefull Of Alien Wing-Wong"
I used to watch a lot of anime but I've gotten off of it lately, I just don't find much I'm interested in. I enjoy Tenchi Muyo and Urusei Yatsura, and I watch Inu Yasha from time to time, though I've totally lost track of the plot. I love everything by Miyazaki, and Lupin III is great. And Hellsing. Once upon a time I watched Ninja Scroll, Kite, Darkside Blues, Twilight Of The Dark Master, and Akira, but it's been awhile.
And I like tentacle hentai. WHAT?? _________________ The depressing thing about tennis is that no matter how good I get, I'll never be as good as a wall.

That particular sub-genre sells better in the West than in Japan itself. He's right about Spriggan though. Great fight scenes. _________________

Spriggan was an ok movie to me. The actions scenes were and are top of teh line but the storyline in the movie was lacking. Just me tho.
As for good anime to watch. Here's what I have seen in America recently. Full meteal panic 1 & Fumofu. Full metal alchamist. I personally like Wolf's Rain. Ghost in teh shell both movies and Stand Alone Complex. Oh a must see is Samurai Champloo. Chrono Crusade.
As for old shool.
Iria. Armtage the third. ofcorse Akira. Neon genisis evangelion. Golgo 13 if you can find it. And by far my most favorable two choices Battle Angel
AND GOLDENBOY!!! If you take any one anime to watch from this selection let it be this one. Go find it and rent/buy it right now. You will be laughing the whole time you watch it. I mean one of the sayings in the series is my fricking quote for my sig. _________________ LIFE is a Mystery! I LOVE THE RESEARCH!!! |

Come to think of it... I rape people in the mouth caus it's needed for my race to survive... now, what's your final answer for the justification of spiky tentacles forcefully intruding a schoolgirl with really big... eyes... _________________

For the benefit of Rommel's poor confused brain that third one is Neon Genesis Evangelion. _________________

My pleasure, thats a particularly nasty combination of Japlish and Babylonian myth. Though it would of been a laugh if Rommel went into a shop and asked for Nun Judas Elephant Man. In fact, hey Rommel! Go to the store and ask for Amanta Huggankisz, it's one of the greatest anime of all time. _________________

I'm weird when it comes to anime. I've watched things recommended to me by my many anime loving friends, and not liked a lot of it. But there are a few that I've liked:
Ninja Scroll, Cowboy Bebop (the movie and the series)...uh...I don't remember what it was called, but there were bionic whales that served as ships and a big war between water races and surface dwellers. That was cool. Ghost in the Shell was ok. I've fallen asleep every time (5 and counting) that I've tried to watch Akira. Vampire Hunter D. I keep meaning to watch Princess Mononoke and Steam Boy and more "recent" fair, but I just haven't yet.
And Big O. Tho, if someone could please explain what the holy hell actually happened at the end of that series, I'll be your best friend. I liked the journey, just not the ending.
Really, though, my tastes in animation run much more western. Animated Batman, Superman, Teen Titans (when they're not doing the SD stuff), JLU, Megas XLR...heck, even way back to Animaniacs, Freakazoid...and even farther back to Thundercats, GI Joe, Transformers... and WAY back to Thundar the Barbarian, Space Ghost, Bird Man, Johnny Quest and the rest of the classic Hanna Barbara hero tunes. _________________ "SUPERMAN HATES MILK WITH THE FIERY INTENSITY OF A THOUSAND SUNS!"

I would HIGHLY recommend Princess Mononoke and everything else by Studio Ghibly, as it's always beautiful and entertaining and with a great story line that actually makes sense. The most recent one, Howl's Moving Castle, was probably the weakest one, but it still outdid all the recent non-Pixar Disney efforts. My personal favorite is Spirited Away. Fan-freakin'-tastic. _________________ The depressing thing about tennis is that no matter how good I get, I'll never be as good as a wall.

I couldn't like that one as much as Princess Mononoke. It was a good movie and I enjoyed it, but as a whole it didn't seem very... balanced. I do like the artistry of both films very much, though.
I could say it needed more blood and violence, but there's really no way that it could have been integrated into the movie as is and made a whole lot of sense. _________________ "Yeast devil! Back to the oven that baked you!" |
