Ok, this pushed me over. Yes, pedophilia is disgusting and wrong on lots of levels. Why people are acting as though the comic wasn't making fun of it is beyond me. If it was being showed as perfectly normal, and something we were all small minded for hating, ok, that would be disgusting and worthy of condemnation. But Preston is saying Abe is a bloody freak he is ashamed of, hardly saying it is ok.
You might as well scream at Law and Order SVU everytime Munch makes a crack about how a guy is a sicko... |

That's missing the whole point.
First of all, pedophilia is nothing to joke about, period. It would be like joking over the Holocaust pictures of children killed in the concentration camp ovens or joking over the people who jumped fom the Twin Towers to escape the flames: there's no humor in it at all.
Secondly, when Munch (to use your example) makes a crack, it's an observation of another human being's depravity and sickness, not a look into Munch himself. There's a huge difference between the two and I believe that's why Bernie was leery. It's one thing to use a minor or "one-time-use" sub-character's pedophile sickness to acknowledge, confront, and maybe even make fun of it, but it's another to try to use a major, even primary character, like Abe, to make that same attempt. That strip wasn't a "simple" attempt to make fun of pedophilia as a subject. It was showing that Abe, himself, is a pedophile and that's what I did not find funny.
And to Tripper: I'm no noob. I've been a member since December of last year, longer than you. I just haven't come across anything in the forums before that I felt needed commenting on. My lack of posting on this site doesn't indicate a lack of participation on my part, noob, so check yourself. Thanks.
