Working at Hollywood Video, I get perks. Namely, 3 free rentals to keep for as long as I want. This means, when I found out we had The Punisher to rent, I decided to re-watch it again (hadn't seen it in years) and, as I usually do, I think movies i saw as a child weren't as good as I thought they were - I was wrong.
The Punisher kicks ass.
It's got it all - a pair of breasts, plenty of violence, Dolph Lundgren is good as a rough and gritty Frank Castle, and it's got a good storyline - Yakuza infringe upon Mafia territory, and keep the head gangsters in check by kidnapping their innocent children. Frank, remembering his own daughters, goes to the rescue, but only because the children did nothing wrong. He kills plenty of mobster wise-guys, yakuza ninja, and spends enough shells to make Arnold cringe. Acting wise it's also pretty decent (especially Yakuza's portions) and the thespian bum is good as well, and Jeroen Krabbe does INCREDIBLY well as a mob boss who feels destroyed after his son is taken by Yakuza thugs. Although it does have a few cheesy spots, they are few and far between.
Overall, Punisher gets 8/10 for action and character development and storyline. _________________ Needing is Wanting

When I worked at Tower Records I got as many free video rentals as I wanted. In those thirteen months of employment I watched more movies that I had never been able to see than ever. The Punisher was one of them, and I enjoyed it a great deal. I was disappointed that Castle had no skull on his chest, and I think the new version is better (strictly from a comic book fan's perspective) but it was a decent flick.
However, it is by far NOT the best Marvel movie ever made. That honor goes to Spider-Man 2. _________________ "I do not feel obliged to believe that the same God who has endowed us with sense, reason, and intellect has intended us to forgo their use."

Nope. Dolph Lundgren of Masters of the Universe and Rocky IV fame played the violent vigilante. _________________ "I do not feel obliged to believe that the same God who has endowed us with sense, reason, and intellect has intended us to forgo their use."

i agree with one thing though...dolph should have the skull logo on him (like thomas jane has in the new one).all in all its a good movie. |
