I have an ongoing debate....
say Dumbledoor dissed Gandalfs mother and they got into a fight, who do you think would win?
we all know Gandalf is WAYYYY cooler, but is he a better fighter?
btw i dont know where the 'poll' button is. _________________ If cricket is a "gentlemens sport" why is Shane Warne allowed to play? |

I don't know who would win, but I think it would look something like this. _________________ The depressing thing about tennis is that no matter how good I get, I'll never be as good as a wall.

I still don't understand how Dumbledore could trust Snape for absolutely no reason at all, concidering Snape was once a Death Eater.
Gandalf on the other hand, absolutly whupped Balrog ass (and came back from the dead). He wields a sword and a staff at once, can scare ANzgul away, speak to animals, etc.
Dumbledore's magic is more flashy but Gandalf simply needs to put that white orb around him to protect himself (as he does against the Balrog), and then splice the Earth under Dumbledores feet.
If magic doesn't work, Dumbledore is pretty crewed becasue he seems reliant on magic. Gandalf is an old man (300 lives of men old... but he isn't human) and he still carries a sword (a big one at that) in one hand like a baton. _________________

Gandalf would have Potter cryin' for his blankie before the end of round one. Don't forget all the orcs he took out with his staff... _________________ Earth first....we'll screw up the other planets later.

Now that makes me question his age... is he 300 years old, or has he lived for say... 300 generations, making it over 3000 years old? _________________ Needing is Wanting

The second one. He says something like "Three hundred of the lives of men" and if you guess that the average livespan around that time is about 80, that makes it somewhere around 25,000 years old. That's pretty dang old.
I don't know much about Harry Potter, but I do know that Gandalf is a badass mutherfucker and pretty much rules everybody. Except for Aragorn, 'cuz, you know, he's the king and all. _________________ The depressing thing about tennis is that no matter how good I get, I'll never be as good as a wall.

Gandalf lived for about 3000 years, basically the entire third age of Middle Earth. According to official resources.
It couldn't possibly make reference to human lives end on end, as the human life expectancy would be 10 years according to the quote. It also couldn't be making reference to generations unless humans started making babies at around age 10.
The quote in the movie is messed up. Also, techincally, Gandalf was as old as time itself.
Gandalf should have said he lived for 50 lives of men (if he added life expentancy end-to-end, based on a life expentancy of 60 years (however if he counted by the Dunedain life expectancy, he would say 30 lives of men)). _________________

Unfortunately such an arbitrary desision is unwise. You have to look into the facts, and not your feelings towards the characters.
Trekkie fans like Star Trek more but the Federation would get its ass handed to them by the Empire. _________________
