Yeah, there are prolly whole boards dedicated to this topic, but hey, what the hell.
So, who here is as horny for D&D online as I am? I buy almost no games anymore, but this one, I will just have to buy.
Personally, I am praying that they maintain the Vancian spell system, although I have a feeling that they are gonna fuck it up by using some point-based system. That is one thing that always pissed me off about games like Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance. You chose a wizard, and you can hurl hundreds of magic missles. I can deal with some artistic license in a game like that, but D&D online really should stay truer to the source.
Now some might say that a Vancian system would make spellcasters underpowered, but they could easily resolve this by making scrolls and wands plentiful. And as far as memorizing spells goes, that can be done when you rest; it doesn't all have to be done in real time.
Ok, gimme your two cents on this, my fellow geeks! _________________ Context is everything. |

I'm not anxious, but yes, the vancian spell system is way better.
Any of the wizard/sorcerors weaknesses can be even out by summoning a few monsters into the fray. _________________

Haha, you're right, I'm not really that anxious either. But, if there is any game which I am most lilely to pick up, that would be the one. _________________ Context is everything. |

PnP D&D is the best. Moe flexible, more realistic, a better social event overall. _________________

Stephen Lynch, anyone? Check out his D&D song, if you're unfortunate enough to not have run across it.

There's always mu*s to play on. Online text based roleplay, that is. I used to play on a ton of places, but have since given up all but one. I know there's more than a few DnD mushes out there. I saw some previews and trailers for the game, and honestly it doesn't look all that impressive. It looks just like EQ2. I hope graphically they can make something stand out. The DND universe is so massive that they can do some really cool stuff. _________________ Needing is Wanting

I always liked the Palladium System, but I started with D&D and played it for a long time.
Combat is done easily and realisticly, as far as RPGs go. The way Magic and Psionics were done is great as well, especially Magic.
Never liked how the D&D system treated Mages. A mage casts their spell and *poof* they forget it. Whats up with that? Thats akin to a Fighter swinging his sword and than instantly forgetting how to use it. _________________

i WAS looking forward to DDO until i realized they arnt shipping the game with - crafting skills, SIX EBERRON CORE CLASSES (gnomes, shifters, HALF ELVES, half orcs, so on), no pvp (i can deal with it) it has no wilderness's (WTF, NO EXPLORATION) and im fairly confident it's not gonna have a popular base. 1000 players per server also (they better have a shitload of server).
Either way, I'm not paying for any of it till i read a review i can trust or play the game myself. _________________ Needing is Wanting

I must say that so far I am rather nonplussed by the Eberron setting. I bought a couple of novels and had a hard time getting into them. I am trying to keep an open mind on this one, though. _________________ Context is everything. |

Yes, D&D Online. I have a raging horse boner just thinking about it. Elephantiasis is an extreme enlargement of body tissues caused by the presence of parasitic worms. Although they often enter through the feet, they have been known to infest other parts of the body as well. _________________ Context is everything.
