Last movie watched

I sat through nearly every single Harry Potter flick back-to-back last weekend and just finished the last two films yesterday night. Deathly Hallows, as a whole, is definitely the best.

We saw Puss in Boots yesterday. Tremendously fun and incredibly beautiful. Man, animation techniques are getting so good.

Saw Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of Crystal Meth last night. I muast admit I didn't believe it could be as bad as everyone said, but yeah, it's all that and worse. Also, it's booooooooring.
The worst sin of this movie must be that it's not an Indiana Jones movie. It's a con-movie that does its best to trick us into thinking we're watching a genuine Indy flick by cramming as much classic Indy imagery as possible (there must be a million shots of the hat alone). But storywise, tone-wise, character development-wise, CGI overuse-wise, lack of exciting stunt driven action-wise, fucking Star Trek ending-wise... this is not an Indiana Jones movie.

I actually didn't feel the need to see this thing at all, but Mr Plinkett just made a review of it, and out of respect for his work, I had to watch the movie first before watching how he rips it apart. Off to RLM, then.

Batman Begins, because of all the Batman hype that's been happening the past few weeks. TDK's definitely getting a play later on today as well.

The Adventures of Tin Tin: The Secret of the Unicorn. Lots of fun and really enjoyed it. I disagree with the critic who said to think of it like Pirates of the Caribbean with a less confusing plot and it was visually too much, taking away from the story, blah blah blah.

This weekend I took advantage of having some Living Social certificates to a newish movie house near my home. Two free tickets and a large popcorn! And I had two left to use before the end of the month.

Thus, me and the missus went to see the new Sherlock Holmes movie (8/10) and David Fincher's version of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo (9/10).

Both movies were enjoyable in their own ways. Holmes caught all the cues that made the first movie fun and added more depth and darkness. It was really well written. My only gripe - one which my wife caught, and was reinforced after reviewing a few minutes of the first movie - was that Watson appears to have a debilitating injury to his right leg but he uses that leg to kick in doors. Seems foolish to me. If I'm gimpy in a certain limb I don't use that limb for physical exertion.

The Dragon Tattoo movie was a good murder mystery, but we both figured out the twist before it was revealed. This movie has is all: a compelling story, skilled cinematography, boobs and ass, revenge, hot sex, torture, good acting, and it doesn't exactly have a happy ending. I liked it a lot and look forward to seeing how the next two books are adapted.

Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol. It surprised me in the way that marketing was nearly terrible but the movie itself was fucking awesome. It did start a little slow I think, even with an action-y beginning (it starts at about five seconds in).

The only thing I would have liked to see differently was cast the blonde French girl as the main villain, which would have worked out a lot more than a mysterious douche we know and feel nothing about, I think. I forget her name only because she had so little screen time, but even with her limited presence, she was much more interesting than the other guy.

Haven't seen A Game of Shadows yet, but I did see Dragon Tattoo at the midnight premiere, and holy shit.

the hot sex to which I was referring was not the rape scene. That was part of the torture I was talking about, though.

Saw the new Mission Impossible movie. Was enjoyable. Tempted to go to an upcoming car show as the BMW i8 is supposed to make an appearance.

Watched the new Holmes yesterday. Extremely enjoyable - I really like what Guy Ritchie has done with the movies. It was a bit too long though, and also I'm not sure what the point of the gypsy chick was - it was almost as if someone had told the writers at the last minute that they needed a female character, so they'd better put one in. Could've solved both those problems by just leaving her out imo.

Little Miss Sunshine, Sunshine, and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.

The pattern was unintentional, and it's listed from worst to best, but they're all pretty damn good. Eternal Sunshine's the only one I haven't seen before, and it's easily one of the best films I've ever seen. I was never a huge Kate Winslet fan before, but now I'll be sure to check out some of her other stuff - same goes for Kirsten Dunst. Jim Carey I've always liked, but I've never seen him like this.

I got a good one, although on first glance it's not completely the same pattern: Pathfinder, King Arthur and Outlander.

It's Vikings vs Indians, then Vikings vs Romans and last but not least, Vikings vs Space Monster.

Zack and Miri Make a Porno. A very enjoyable flick that surprisingly managed to capture some of that old Kevin Smith magic and deliver that unique mix of raunch and heart I always found endearing.
Since I never really liked Dogma all that much, I can safely say that Zack and Miri is the man's best film since, well, Chasing Amy. Better late than never, I guess.
