I don't even know why you bring Han Solo into this.

Because He too is a persona of Harrison Ford. So it's easy for some to confuse him with Indy. I guess.

Spoiler:
Raiders of the Last Ark, in the Well of Souls, when Indy falls down, looks up only to stare right at a pissed off cobra.

Spoiler:
Ah, I was always amazed by that shot, since it's clearly very dangerous. It's Lost Ark by the by, not Last Ark.

Thank you Simon. After reading your essay, I went and watched The Last Crusade for the first time in years, and it reminded me both of how good it was, and also made me realize how bad the new one is in contrast.

oh, Crusade is amazing. beats even the first one, narrowly, but yes.
i think it's the emotional weight of the father/son thing that makes the difference.

i haven't seen the new one and i don't want to.

I'm sorry but anyone who was upset or disspleased by this movie is a spoiled whore.

Wow, how incredibly insulting of you. I'm a "spoiled whore" because I can recognize the lost potential of what could have been a fantastic movie? By the way, the next time you feel like sharing your keen insights with the world you should seriously consider hiring an editor to spell check your typing. I've seen fewer typos in a third-grade book report. I'd be more upset with you but since you can't spell I can't really take you seriously.

This movie has been so universally panned by longtime Indiana Jones fans that a new term has been spawned forth into the popular lexicon because of how shitty the movie was. You know the term "jumping the shark" as a reference to when a popular TV series stoops to such a low that it can never recover. It usually involves a stunt or gimmick or other plot point so profoundly out of character for the series that the show can no longer be taken seriously. Well, sure enough, this movie has inspired those countless millions of "spoiled whores" to invent a parallel term for movies. The term is "nuking the fridge". It's the "precise moment at which a cinematic franchise has crossed over from remote plausibility to self parodying absurdity" (UrbanDictionary.com)

I have to admit, the more removed I get from seeing this movie, the more I get to think about the little things that made it such a horrible installment. I really, really am let down by all involved in making the film. Simon's review pretty much summed up all that's been rattling around in my head since I saw the movie. Kudos to the Panda for articulating all that is unholy about the new Indy film.

Oh, and it's "Brotherhood of the Crucible Sword", not "Crucifix Sword." Wink

Actually, I think you'll find it's neither - it's the Brotherhood of the Cruciform Sword. As in, sword shaped like a cross.

My bad. It's been years since I saw the movie. I recalled him saying "crucible". But now that I think real hard, I can hear the dude with the thick mustache saying that.

Yep, Aurelyn's got us both. I am now forced to relinquish my recently earned kudos to him.

Well it's been just about two months since Kingdom's release and so when a friend of mine had his birthday and we all batched up a party in his honor I brought up the topic of the film for discussion. Surprisingly, more than half of them said it rocked, the remainder said it was 'pretty good'. Unsurprisingly, when I all showed them my review (cause bugger me if I was actually going to memorize all the arguments I made), it was as if the Holy Ghost itself came to enlighten them with tongues of fire.

It was like watching that first half-hour or so of 2001 again, but in real life.
