I feel we should now have an official Cloverfield thread. I'm sure you guys now what film I'm talking about, that really mysterious one with that big thing.
Oh yeah, check these out, viral marketing.

Looks pretty crazy, and awesome at the same time
Spoiler: | Supposedly the monster looks like nothing we have ever seen before, which should be interesting. Maybe it's the McCain Girl... I was really hoping for a hella-kick-ass Godzilla remake, but dreams dont usually come true... |

Apparently the monster is supposed to feature body parts from every animal kingdom, and even has car-sized 'parasites' that latch off the body to attack, but it mostly resembles a whale. But I learned all this from google, so there's a chance that's all false info. _________________ Only the strongest will survive.

Ya know what? I just don't give a shit anymore. Thay're not gonna show the monster in the preview then I can only assume it'll be just as bad as the Rohland Emeric Godzilla. Maybe if it were a movie about Mazinger Z or Ultraman I could see this as something to which I would give a second thought. Just let me know what the monster is when you see it, 'cause that's the only aspect I really care about. _________________ WHY YOU GOTTA BREAK BALLS? |

Maybe they won't show the monster in the movie either? Wouldn't that be bitch.
When they launched the marketing campaign there were A LOT of rumours. Now it seems that there was this one particular rumour that actually might not be a rumour.
Spoiler: | It was rumoured that the big whatever infects humans which then turns to smaller whatevers which then also infect people... Like Resident evil meets Godzilla. Some parts of the trailers suggests this. |
I'm still a bit sceptical about it. Who knows... Three days and then we know. _________________ "Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!" |

Hmmm... I saw the trailer for Cloverfield when I went to see AvP:R, seems like a pretty fucked up movie, actually.
Still, I want to see it... kinda... I dunno... as long as people die, I tend to be happy... |

Spoiler: | I remember seeing something like that (possibly) in the trailer. Remember when they showed the silhouette of the women and those two soldiers behind that veil? The screen turns black and we hear this wierd ripping sound and for split second it looked she was swelling. That would be really twisted, a monser that distorts people into other monsters. |

Yeah, that's the part of the trailer I meant. Damn I can't wait to see what Abrahams has created. But how annoying, it comes to the theaters around here in the end of February. Why on earth I HAVE to wait so long? I'm the god damn center of the Universe. _________________ "Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!" |

I enjoyed the movie. It was pretty much exactly what I thought it would be in terms of principle structure. I disliked The Blair Witch Project because I couldn't identify with any of the three people who were the main characters. They all seemed stupid and shallow and it was impossible to take them seriously. I found that to be different with this movie. The characters, while still being vapid, shallow people, were believable, and their reactions to the harrowing situations felt genuine.
Spoiler: I was really taken with the sequence in the park when Hud films the thing above him, and it kills him. That was really well done. The fact that he seemed dull witted, but was able to keep the presence of mind about him to film all he saw, and to realize how important it was that there be a visual record of the events, made his death that much more satisfying from a story-telling standpoint. You didn't want to see him die, but inevitably he had to.
The footage of "a good day" interwoven with the disasterous footage, I think at least in part, was left in there to punch home the importance of enjoying life while you can, because you never know when some ginormous, crazy, fucked up, alien lookin' beast will stomp your town into smithereens.
I liked that the beast and its "offspring", if that's what they were, looked and sounded completely unlike anything I'd ever seen or heard before. I was one of the few in the theater when it was over who wasn't bothered by the lack of closure. The movie was a documentation of a monster attack on Manhattan by a schlub with a camcorder. Nothing more or less. |

when watching the trailers it gives me the same feeling of call of cthulu;
you can feel its all about some great evil presence, but the tension constantly builds up because you know its there, but you cant see it.
the feeling of fear and danger that keep haunting you till you are driven mad by an horror that you are not even able to realize if true or just in your mind...well,until it eats you alive.
havent seen this movie, but i think if the atmosphere is the same as i described it,i will much enjoy it.
i also think if they didnt let you have a clear image of the monster/s but just brief glances, the feeling of real terror would be slightly increased.exquisitely lovecraft-ian. _________________

Spoiler: I enjoyed it. It was a nice change of pace from the average "monster goes on rampage, destroys city; more at eleven," kinda movies. I apprechiate when someone tries to do something new, and I'm always happy to see some positive change.
The monster was neat, uh, I think. From what I saw of it.
The movie seemed similar to the 1998 remake of Godzilla if it wasn't a steaming pile of SHIT. You know. Big ol' monster running around smashing the city. Lil' monsters killing the people on the street.
Anways, I liked it. Go see Cloverfield if you want to break the norm of Hollywood monstie movies. |

Spoiler: I thought this movie was very nice. The suspense was good, multiple times in the movie I was thinking "Moron, keep running, there's something behind you!!!" and I got that weird feeling between my shoulder blades when you know something creepy is behind you.
I really liked the filming style, even though it didn't really show much of hte monster and the action, but the style makes up for that.
The only thing I gotta say is that that is one hell of a special camera. It's taping for 115 minutes (approx) and it even had the light and night vision on for a while, and the battery never empties. It also survived falling down and being exploded on without cracking the lens or breaking the damn thing. I want me one of those!!!
And it was a bit short. I'm not saying the movie would be better if it was like 3 hours, but still. Ah, they probably ran out of tape |

The movie full filled my expectations. And that's a very good thing.
But I got to admit, I was a bit dissapointed because the characters were quite dumm. The underground scene reminded me of the scene in Scary Movie 1 where Carmen Electra rans towards these two signs where in the other reads something like safe and in another reads certain death. And of course she picks the certain death. dumm, dummer, dead.
Spoiler: | Yay, I was almost but not quite right. There were these little things which drop from this big thing's anus... Well, it DID look like it. I was wrong though when I thought the big one was one to infect people... Though I was right about the thing that there would be a little monsters. Little itsy bitsy spiders. |
I think the movie answered the questions that were flying around during the viral marketing campaign. Now after the release there's more questions than there were before like How, Why, and What happened afterwards. I demand a crappy sequal filmed in the military pov.
Oh and my apologies if the post is somewhat messy. It's 1 am, I'm tired and I was drinking last night... like I need an excuse to write poor english... _________________ "Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!" |
