The Unknown Teaser

Recently, I went to see Transformers in theatres. I was reasonably pleased, but one of the more interesting parts were the trailers for upcoming movies. One was for the Simpsons movie, one was for a new Mister Bean movie, and the third...well, I'm not quite sure. The third trailer is why I started this thread. It gave no mention about what the movie was about or even what the name was.

As for any hint towards story, all the audience learns is this: there's a party regarding some guy who's going away to Tokyo, being filmed by amateur video camera. Suddenly, the lights go out and something that sounds like a loud roar is heard. The partygoers rush to the roof and see a massive explosion among the skyscrapers. Finally, in a panic, the people rush to the street, another roar is heard, and a final firey explosion fills the screen. A list of names briefly flashes on the screen, and then, as quickly as it began, the trailer ends showing a date (which I neglected to remember).

I'm at a loss here. My only guess is that it is another bastardization of some classic kaiju movie. Any ideas, aLp?

1/18/08 was the date, but IMDB has nothing on it, i thought one of the guys looked like Eric Bana but no movies in his upcoming releases are releases in january.

No, not 9/11, the explosions were at night from the center of the city, there were animal sounds, and the Head of The Statue of Liberty was smashed off and flew into a small crowd of people.
