I have some ideas for cheap but meaningful gifts:
-Write some poetry for your beloved ones. the cheesier the better.
-Give prayers and sacrifices as gifts, and write a beautiful card mentioning your gift. The longer and harder, the better. (ie: a Hail Mary is cheap, a Rosary is good, but a whole Novena is even better.)
-If you are Chinese, exchange some brand new one dollar coins at the bank and give five to ten dollars in a red envelope. (don't give away red envelopes to Koreans since red means very bad luck, more precisely, death)
-Another cheap an meaningful gift, if you have to give a gift to many many people at the same time, buy a high quality million dollar bill, you can buy like 500 for 20 bucks. It will be funny and unique. You can even leave it as a tip, it is cool for the waiter and inexpensive for you. win-win situation.
That is what I had in mind so far, any other ideas? |

Well, if the person receiving the gift is a girl... and a nice looking girl... just give her condoms. Cheap, and meaningful. As in meaning you wanna try em out with her...

Heh, but you have those really cheap ones for youngsters - did you know I know the girl who designed the picture for those?
She said it's cool to think that all the time her ex-boyfriends use one of those condoms with another girl they have to get past that picture of hers.

| Ha, that reminds me. Someone in my neighborhood tried to sell used condoms, and asked my older sister if she wanted them. He then woke up in a cardboard box, taped, and with breathing holes in it. |

Yes, it's a new project, actually not started by the government (who couldn't care less, the idiots) but by a company run by youngsters themselves.
For 10 eurocents, young people can buy their condoms there. It's a very good project.

 Spoken like someone who's never been down to their last few cents and fancied a shag. People are going to f*** whether they can afford condoms or not, and many people, particularly young 'uns, are far more likely to use condoms if they only cost a few cents... I still think it's a great idea..

To 'show you care'?
What you get is people will then say, okay we don't buy condoms and we will try to play it safe without them - which is risky, because as much as you promise yourself 'no condom=no penetration', when in heat things might seem to be less clear...

Fucking is expensive. It can lead to all sorts of costly diseases, offspring, emotional attachments. Condoms are still cheaper than raising a kid or being treated for some horrible disease.
I agree with Lunabella that, if somebody cannot scrape together a few bucks for some protection, then perhaps that person needs to put "sex" a few places lower on the priority list.
Now, in a quasi-Hegelian move, I will suggest that perhaps it is those people who cannot afford condoms who need them the most.
Damn, I need some sleep.

Candles. Because everyone loves candles.
Even though candles are hardly ever cheap, they mean a bunch to most people. (as no one ever tells you they hate a gift.)
Although i'm fairly sure that a candle would mean more than a packet of condoms. |

don't forget there is variation, even among condoms of the same brand.
classic will usually be cheaper than, say, flavoured, ribbed, or extra moistured.
is it more meaningful if you make your cheap gift a packet of ribbed instead of plain old classic easy-ons?

Oh, I have been down to my last cents allright. That's why I always keep fresh ones in my room.
It's not like I fancy doing it in more public locations like a toilet or a car backseat. It's too clumsy. Or maybe I'm just too romantic. bah. |

It's more of a penis-shaped candle really - a condom-shaped candle would'nt be very practical: fast burning and messy...

No, I have not been around a lot, and I would think even the moderators noticed that I haven't been here since the early 8-10 months of 2006 upon my last major visit.
