I was reflecting on the joy of buying a new album that really rocks your world and then listening to it nonstop for about a week until you essentially know every second by heart. The first few times you hear a really good tune, until your brain learns to anticipate it, are always the best. Anyhow, I've been doing that with Miss Kittin's "Live at Sonar" the last few days.

What's everyone else listening to?

I just made a mix cd of God Street Wine that has been in the player for the last few days. Before that, I had Phish (Round Room).

nothing at the moment due to my stereo being repaired.
but once i get it back i'm gonna sink my teeth deep in Sign O' The Times by, yes you guessed, Prince.
and during short intermissions i'll dig some of the Essential Sly & The Family Stone as well.
i brought these beauties from London over a week ago and haven't even had a chance to listen to them yet. damn you, dust in a cd lens!

Uhm, no... that mask actually was bought with another purpose in mind...

But it has crossed my mind that if me and the band ever where to do a Klipsnot song, I could like totally put that thing on.

I'm the lead singer.

We already have a lead guitar, a uhm... second guitar and a drummer. All we need now is a bassist. And maybe we need to get together sometime and play something. All we did so far was me and the guitarists playing songs and singing... and not even with both guitarists at the same time.

Yeah, we still kinda suck.

Scrap the bassist - every band needs an electric glockenspiel for instant cred!

Lynyrd Skynard didn't use a bassist for FreeBird. But they tour with a bass player, most of the time it's a good 'ole country girl with big hair and a cowboy hat.

Well, Iactually haven't used my cd player in two years, but I finally found my Queen-Greatest Hits Volume 2 lying in there, collecting dust. Now I'm listening to it.

The P.M.R.C. Can Suck On This by NOFX.

That's the name of the album, back when the Washington Wives were busy.

Nice.. I dug out Greatest Hits I the other day. When I said "CD player" I of course meant any other music-playing medium one might use... "Stuck in your vinyl player" just didn't have the same ring... Even if it is the greatest of all music formats ever created..

Sweet. That's my favorite one. Has all the classic 70's songs and a few of the good 80's ones (i.e. Another One Bites The Dust, and Crazy Little Thing Called Love)

Hear hear.

I stil have those old house records on vinyl and it wouldn't be the same on cd or what have you...

Also, I've got all the Cure records up till kiss me kiss me kiss me on vinyl and that's how they should be listened to, methinks...

It really does make a difference with dance music doesn't it? I've a fairly extensive drum n' bass vinyl collection which wouldn't be the same on cd. It's not just the sound, it's the smell I think... You have an album on vinyl, you really know you have an album. Not to mention the fact that it's way more fun to mix using vinyl.

Got a fair amount of early Floyd and Dire Straits on record too - lovely...

Yes, nowadays, when I DJ, I use cd's because it is so difficult to get mainstream music on vinyl, but before, when I was more into underground music, I would always use vinyl.

I pretty much suck either way, though. I suspect people invite me more for my 'eclectic' musical taste than for my DJ abilities.

Do you find it hard to get mainstream music on vinyl? In the last few years I've noticed a resurgence in the popularity of vinyl from the general populace's perspective , as opposed to just DJs, and most cities seem to have at least one small record store that specialises in vinyl. Ours is great - if they don't have it, they'll source it for you, and it's not a whole lot more expensive than your average Virgin or Tower is..

Yes, but it's so much easier to buy cd-collections (or just download them) than to go through all that effort.

Mind you, nowadays an evening with Munan will feature a lot of obscure Swedish pop alongside all today's and yesterday's cheesy but good hits and some turbofolk.

Now, if I'd want to professionalise, I would take the effort, but then again: if I'd want that, I'd play different music...
