OK, i just broke up with my girlfriend just last week, because things werent going well. now for the past two years ive had a crush on this girl in my year called prudence. ive never asked her out because she didnt know me too much, but i know her. for the past two months we've become friends and since ive broke up with my girlfriend, ive been thinking about asking her out.

BUT, the problem is, my friend jimmy just told me last night that he liked her and had admitted his feelings to her, but she said that she just wants to be friends. he really likes her too and has been thinking about asking her out again latly.

now, should i ask her out, regardless about how my friend feels about her, or would that make me look like a wanker and i shouldnt ask her out?

If she has no romantic aspirations toward Jimmy, she's fair game regardless of how he feels about her. You've got nothing to lose. If she says the same thing to you then it's all good and you and your buddy can commiserate with each other over your shared unrequited love. If she accepts your offer to date, then you just have to be up-front and tell Jimy at the first opportunity. Just lay it out for him simply: "She likes me, I like her, there are bound to be other girls in your future, and that's that. Nothing personal, Jimmy, but you need to move on."

If he becomes an asshole over it, he's not worth keeping as a friend. Seriously. Any guy who's man enough to give up a woman for his best bud is worth it. Anyone who isn't....just isn't.
