| No, in Predator 2 it could still see in infrared w/o the mask, which it could NOT do in the first movie. I have yet to receive a totally satisfactory answer to this. |

Dude go an watch the movie over. In Predator 1 when he took of the mask he saw swathsy(ahnold) in red meaning he saw body heat. he saw everything around him in black or a dark color meaning cold no heat. And plus in the 2nd one they didnt have ne scenes form the pred's POV with the mask off. _________________ VAMPIRES SHALL INHERIT THE EARTH |

Big realization: The Predators DO see color. With the mask on they can see yellow, red, blue, etc.
They probably can't see color in terrestrial atmospheres because the different composition would filter some of the wavelengths that the Predator is naturaly designed to see, therefore all he sees in Earth's atmosphere is a red blotch.
If the Predator see's infrared without the mask on, the mask could be designed to 'correct' vision in different atmospheres. Makes sense in my opinion. |

I don't even know where to begin correcting you...so I won't.
Edit: That was directed at Rus. Simon squeezed a post in while I was typing. |

This is from a convo I had with Simon on the subject:
(the threads separate, it unravels, was me, Simon says was Simon)
| Quote: | The threads separate, it unravels says:
and please stop, I don't want to have to take the whole "color" argument to a whole other level
- Ŝĩώøñ_$åŷς - "Sunday! Sunday! Someday!" says:
I was jsut stating an observation.
The threads separate, it unravels says:
cuz I'm itchin to
- Ŝĩώøñ_$åŷς - "Sunday! Sunday! Someday!" says:
bring it on bitch
The threads separate, it unravels says:
you bring up an interesting point that the pred can see those colors that show up on his infrared vision
The threads separate, it unravels says:
so the question arises, why can't he see those same colors with the ambient light of the Earth?
The threads separate, it unravels says:
here's what I was thinking
The threads separate, it unravels says:
the infrared vision that the audience sees from the pred's POV may be a bit of a heuristic affair (Edit: I was using "heuristic" to mean sensible but nonrigorous)
The threads separate, it unravels says:
but it goes even deeper
The threads separate, it unravels says:
color is a biological phenomenon
The threads separate, it unravels says:
the physical aspect is really such a small part of it
The threads separate, it unravels says:
therefore, a given wavelength that the pred perceives as "blue" may not be the same on that a human would perceive as blue
The threads separate, it unravels says:
this only gets more complicated
The threads separate, it unravels says:
SO, the mask conceivably detects wavelegths which the pred (or a human, for that matter) could NOT see (i. e., infrared range), and tranlates that to some wavelengths that the pred CAN see, which are DIFFERENT from the "visible" spectrum to which WE are accustomed
The threads separate, it unravels says:
but the main point is that, what is blue, red, green, etc, for a pred, would not necesarily be blue, red, green, respectively, for a human
The threads separate, it unravels says:
*takes deep breath*
- Ŝĩώøñ_$åŷς - "Sunday! Sunday! Someday!" says:
It's all how the brain interprets it.
The threads separate, it unravels says:
exactly
The threads separate, it unravels says:
you can see this kind of thing with chromatic induction and related phenomena
The threads separate, it unravels says:
color is really more subject that we would like to believe
The threads separate, it unravels says:
our senses can easily deceive us
The threads separate, it unravels says:
subjective*
- Ŝĩώøñ_$åŷς - "Sunday! Sunday! Someday!" says:
*puts on the blast visor like Luke Skywalker*
The threads separate, it unravels says:
lol
The threads separate, it unravels says:
not exactly where I was going with that, but ok
- Ŝĩώøñ_$åŷς - "Sunday! Sunday! Someday!" says:
post it
The threads separate, it unravels says:
this whole convo?
- Ŝĩώøñ_$åŷς - "Sunday! Sunday! Someday!" says:
I barely understood it, but post it
The threads separate, it unravels says:
or just my parts?
The threads separate, it unravels says:
edit?
- Ŝĩώøñ_$åŷς - "Sunday! Sunday! Someday!" says:
your choice... I didn't say anything embarrasing
The threads separate, it unravels says:
haha, cool |

Oh, and there are some shots in Predator 2 where the Pred sees infrared without his mask on. Thank you guys for making me pay attention to it and spoiling the movie for me _________________

Do you get trophys if you've seen it more than 5 times, have a Special 2 Disc Version, a standard DVD version and a Predator/Predator 2 VHS Double Pack? _________________

| I have a question: If Preds see in the infrared spectrum, then how'd they develop a written language? |

... Paint/pigments visible in the infrared spectrum? Red lights on the bracer computers?
We're talking about aliens here, do you seriously think that the Preds could not have found an equivilent to paper or such on their homeworld? _________________
