I am in pain waiting for May 4, 2007.
http://www.apple.com/trailers/sony_pictures/spider-man_3/index.html
Okay, so there's Sandman. There's Goblin 2. There's what appears to be Gwen Stacy. And the symbiote....I think I can safely say that this one will be the ass kickingest installment yet. _________________ "I do not feel obliged to believe that the same God who has endowed us with sense, reason, and intellect has intended us to forgo their use."

I'd be willing to bet that the enemies are gonna be the Hobgoblin and Sandman, but at the end they are going to hint towards Venom being in Spider-man 4. _________________ You forget one thing: rock crushes scissors. But paper covers rock... and

I know what the comicbooks were, but I betcha they are going to change things around a bit.
I'll bet Harry is the one who improves upon the serum so it doesn't cause insanity. I mean, how many times can they use the same villian? _________________ You forget one thing: rock crushes scissors. But paper covers rock... and

I know, but there was no sign of the actual Eddie Brock venom. I bet he ends up ditching the suit at the end of the movie, and then it attacks Brock, leaving it open for Spiderman 4. _________________ You forget one thing: rock crushes scissors. But paper covers rock... and

Harry Osbourne became Green Goblin 2. His father's death drove him mad with vengeance. When he discovered his father's extracurricular activites, he focused his energies on getting back at Spider-man, whom he blamed for this father's death. Hobgoblin was a completely separate character, inspired by Green Goblin.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Spider-Man obtained the alien symbiote "costume" during Secret Wars. It was thought to be advanced technology. But while Peter Parker slept at night it would take his body out and webswing all over the city, all night. Peter was getting exhausted, wondering why he felt so tired, worn out, even sometimes banged up in the mornings.
He went to Reed Richards, who dicovered it was a sentient being, not just fancy clothes. He told Spidey to remove it, but the symbiote fought him. It was trying to establich a permanent link with him. The alien was sensitive to loud noises, so Richards whipped out a sonic rifle capable of shooting a focused blast of audio waves. The symbiote dispersed and Spidey had to webswing home in a Fantastic Four costume that hung on him like rags.
Later on the symbiote, which felt rejected and angry, tried to forcefully take Peter and meld with him. Spidey ended up in a church with some huge bells in the tower. As the bells tolled, the symbiote again dispersed, this time much more violently than before, and Peter assumed he had killed it.
Fast forward to Eddie Brock, a ruined journalist whose career was cut short by a maniac named the Sin Eater.
The Sin Eater was a serial killer who was terrorizing the city. He came to Brock to confess his crimes. Brock published his story in a rival newspaper to the Bugle and the city was breathing a sigh of relief that the killer was captured. But then Spider-Man had it out with the real Sin Eater, proving that the man who had come to Brock was a fake. Brock was fired, ridiculed, and became a pariah in his profession.
Brock tried finding things to occupy his time. He couldn't work, but he could life weights. Every time he punched a heavy bag, he fantasized that he was pummeling Spider-Man's face. When he lifted barbells he would dream of wringing Spidey's neck. He became obsessed with Spider-Man, whom he blamed for ruining his life. He finally realized that there was nothing left for him.
He wanted to commit suicide, but was Catholic and considered it a mortal sin. He went from church to church praying, hoping to seek absolution for what he was going to do. One night he came to the church where Spider-Man had fought off the symbiote. The symbiote was still there, but weak. It sensed the hatred that Brock felt for Spider-Man, the intense anger and bitterness, and it went to him. It joined with him completely, so neither Brock nor the Symbiote existed any longer. They were now a new, stronger being that called itself Venom.
Venom dedicated it's existence to destroying Spider-Man. It almost did a few times. Eddie Brock eventually was discarded. Turns out he had cancer. The symbiote had staved off the deterioration for some years, but eventually had to disentangle itself from Brock and forage out on its own.
Or so it went in the comic. Which I pretty much consider canon. _________________ "I do not feel obliged to believe that the same God who has endowed us with sense, reason, and intellect has intended us to forgo their use."

Oh, not doubt. Many things have changed. Peter's first love was Gwen Stacy, who was killed by the Green Goblin, which led to Peter killing him. As it is, Gwen is making her first appearance in this third and possibly final movie. His ability to scale walls was never really explained scientifically, although one time Electro discovered that static electricity had something to do with it (in an old issue of Spectacular Spider-Man) and was able to make Spidey un-stick and fall down. I like the way they've explained it in the movies, that tiny cilia grow out of his skin, like how a spider clings.
There're always going to be profound changes in the plot, characterizations, and specifics when a comic is translated to a motion picture, but as long as the spirit and tone is captured for the purpose of a live action and realistic setting, I'm all smiles. Spider-Man so far is really the first superhero comic-to-movie adpatation that I believe truly "gets it". Being a lifelong Spider-Man fan , I feel I have special insight into the saga, and I have a great deal of respect for Sam Raimi and all who had something to do with these movies. _________________ "I do not feel obliged to believe that the same God who has endowed us with sense, reason, and intellect has intended us to forgo their use."

Dude, I love your Spider-Man knowledge. Spider-Man is definitely my favourite superhero. Especially the fact that Peter Parker is just an ordinary boy with lots of troubles... _________________

Also, I find it hard to believe that those tiny cilia, numerous as they are, can possibly support the weight of a heavily-built human... _________________

He's toned, not bulky. Peter Parker is an average sized guy. He's not super-muscled. Johnny Storm is built better than him. Which is why Johnny's old uniform was big on him.

See above. He's not that heavy. I probably weigh more than Spider-Man would. _________________ "I do not feel obliged to believe that the same God who has endowed us with sense, reason, and intellect has intended us to forgo their use."

O RLY?
But look at him, he's very well built, not ginormous, but built. And muscle weighs mroe than fat.
But Johnny's even more heavily endowed? Just woah.
Also even if you took a light person (100 some pounds) I still don't think those tiny hooks would support the mass. _________________

Simon, this is why you have to turn off part of your brain to enjoy a movie like that. Their attempts to scientifically explain his powers are half-assed at best.
You're right; you can't just scale things at will. You know how people always make a big deal about how "an ant can lift ten times its body weight" and shit like that? Well, that's really no big deal because ten times an ant's body weight is still next to nothing. I think that was the explanation for why Spiderman is supposed to be strong. As animals, buildings, etc. get larger, certain things do not change: sizes of molecules, tensile strengths of materials, and so on. That is why there is an upper limit to how large things can be build, using the materials we have. Now if we were able to find materials that were strong, yet lighter, that would be a different story. _________________ Context is everything. |
