Best Pizza Place EVER!

Sal & Carmine's Pizza on W100 & Broadway

It's a little hole in the wall place with a maroonish awning and it seriously has the best pizza NYC or otherwise that I and many people I know have ever had GO THERE NOW!

the crust is what makes it, it's thin crust and they use the perfect amount of cheese to sauce, its been the same 2 guys making the pizza there for 20 years, and no it isn't literally a hole in the wall. If someone else would go there and eat it and report back so im sure im not crazy that would be nice but I felt that in a NY oriented strip's forums i needed to give a shoutout to some great great great NY pizza

My current favorite place is inspirationally titled "Joe's"; you go to the West 4th St. basketball court, cross 6th Avenue and walk just a little bit south. I think it's around the corner from an Arby's. There are two Joe's over there; it's the one further away from the basketball court. It's a pretty thin crust, which I normally don't like, but it's just that good. I will try to make a point to check out the place you're recommending.

My favorite place in the city is Lombardi's on Spring St near Mott I believe.
I've had a lot of run-ins with really greasy pizza, but this place has little to no grease. The crust is a bit thin, but really soft and not chewy. Since they bake it in the brick oven it's got a fresh coal-ish taste to it. The cheese isn't rubbery at all, and the sauce is amazing. Plus there's a lot of topping choices. Definatly worth the 12$.

Coming from an outside perspective, I typically am always let down by NY slices of pizza. Most of those I try (UWS and Midtown anyway) are just kind of ...blah. I mostly attribute this to the fact that they are left out under heatlamps and then warmed (after installing the toppings of your choice in some places) for your consumption.

I'm just dying for some FRESH pizza. But apparently the only way to get that is to:

1) order a whole pie, or
2) Have very fortunate timing to arrive just as the pizza is actually fresh. (In some cases, this may be the previous day.)

Pizza there is generally fresh otherwise they will heat it up in the oven (as most places do) and I forgot to mention its only like $1.25 a slice for cheese

Personally I like Two Boots on avenue A just off Houstan Street.

I haven't been to Two Boots in a while, but they made (maybe still make it) a damned good cajun pizza.

I know these aren't Manhattan pizzerias, but I will mention these two for good pizza:

Nick's Pizza (in Forest Hills): really, really good brick oven pizza.
Victor's (in Melville, LI): two reasons why I like this place: (1) very big slices, and (2) best buffalo chicken pizza I ever had. Out of the way, quite obviously, but very, very good.

I guess until that is resolved, I will endorse Stu's list. Well, except for the Melville one, I never went there.

None of the ones I've been too around there have been anything special to write home about.

I'm not a fan of Joe's. They were both owned by the same folks- at least, my partner and I used to sit and watch them shuttle pies back and forth on busy summer nights.
I used to really like the Ray's right around the corner (by the W 4th st subway stop), but the quality has gone way downhill over the years.
Lombardi's is pretty good.
I used to really like Mona Lisa on Bleeker, but they closed a few years ago.
Man, what's up with all the good pizza disappearing???
Oh, I like the stuff across from the northeast corner of Washington Square park. Especially when it's re-heated- personally, I find that the sit factor makes a pizza better.

Thank you Wize some Vindication and confirmation, and yeah it's been on all sorts of those lists for best slice, I used to go there all the time when I still lived in the city, and now I go there when ever I'm back

sal and carmines is right around the corner from me :)

it's good pizza, only down side is that it's a bit on the salty side.

lombardi's is great, as is pizza gruppo down in the east village.

koronet is pretty decent too, i once ate 2 slices in a sitting. (if you haven't had one before, that won't sound like an accomplishment)

U should try Malaysian pizzas! Imagine.... Chillied prawn paste, shrimp, tuna, crab, and a lime aroma. Thats just the seafood pizza. Try Malaysian pizzas one day.
