I think it started with the spread of the Chuck Norris facts. As to why said facts started, I can't really give you an answer on that. But they're pretty funny. Even Chuck Norris has seen them. So it must be important. Otherwise he'd be killing many people, because he doesn't go hunting since that word implies failure.

In a fight between Chuck Norris and an Alien, Chuck would simply go into slow-motion cowboy kung-fu mode and kick the alien through the wall. Then he'd call upon his comrade Steven Seagal and they'd wage bloody war on the Predators, until the Borg were forced to assimilate them into the collective in order to add their biological distinctiveness to their own.
