If by trick-or-treating you mean "writing a paper about Russian peasant mentality," then yes. Yes, I was trick-or-treating. Hm... I wonder if there is leftover candy by the door... _________________ "Yeast devil! Back to the oven that baked you!" |

This is really weird. I am currently reading an article (actually a chapter of a book) on Russian peasant mentality...

Sugar rushes are an interesting cultural phenomenon. First time I heard of it was from my American sister in law. Here, in the Netherlands, where the word doesn't exist, people simply don't have them.
Sometimes, indeed, ignorance is bliss. _________________ The Justified Ancient of Mu Mu |

Nope. Never. And I'm positive that the majority of people in the Netherlands don't.
We don't have the concept, so we don't have sugar rushes. _________________ The Justified Ancient of Mu Mu |

Well, after carefully examening that post... I can only conclude that if a dutchman acts like that, he's on something heavier than sugar... I sometimes feel like that when I'm high... if I can stop laughing that is... _________________

Mmm... Leftover Halloween candy... Candy isn't really that appealing any more. Unless said candy happens to be peanut butter cups... Then I'll be all over like like a hobo on a sammich.
If the Russian peasants had peanut butter cups, I bet they would've been a lot happier. _________________ "Yeast devil! Back to the oven that baked you!" |

Which articles are you reading?
I'm currently enjoying "The children of 1812" by Orlando Figes.
And yeah, those Russian peasants were an unhappy lot. _________________ The Justified Ancient of Mu Mu |

They're large sections from books, which we had to read for class and then write something on. I doubt that I stuck to the prompt (or my thesis, for that matter), so I'm in the process of a rewrite after having turned it in yesterday. Whoops. But, anyways:
-Aleksandr Nikolaevich Engelgardt: Letters from the Countryside, 1872-1887
-Possessed: Women, Demons, and Possession in Imperial Russia (Christine D. Worobec; an examination of the phenomena of klikushestvo, "shrieking")
-All Russia is Burning! (Cathy A. Frierson; an examination of fire and arson in peasant life)
If I had read the Engelgardt first, then I wouldn't have come out with the impression that all women were shriekers and peasant society was full of arsonists. And now I'm going to read something about the kustar movement and write a book review for that (Arts and Craft in Late Imperial Russia, Wendy Salmond). The fun just doesn't stop...! _________________ "Yeast devil! Back to the oven that baked you!" |

If that would be your usual line of reasoning, like 75% of the topics could be nuked. So this is silly, and therefore...
*de-nukes da topic*
