A great deal of modern medical science is attributed to advances made during warfare too. _________________ Da Fro-mastah of da aLp Forums!

Also, uniforms look good and suit pretty much everyone.
No problems with matching accessories up.

Whoa. I'm late to this debate. And rhyming?!
Anyhoo, I actually do agree that war is sometimes needed, but never good. A necessary evil. I do optimistically believe that it is possible to have a society with no war, but I can name a few countries that would have to have some major renovations. *cough*middleeast*cough* These countries have a way of beginning conflicts with other countries based on "religion", politics or resources; and the powerful, corrupt leaders of those nations seem to just replace the ones that we (the USA) or other countries take down. There are far too many wealthy, powerful people in the Middle East and Africa (and in the United States for that matter, but thats a different story). _________________ You forget one thing: rock crushes scissors. Nothing looks better then a hot chick with a tight uniform. Except maybe a hot chick who just took her tight uniform off... _________________

bow chicka wow wow,
half my family have been in the armed forces and a quarter of that half(or atleast what was left of them) got the best funeral the army could buy, and I think we should support war aslong as its for the right reason, if its an actual threat like after Pear Harbor or 9/11, also I think nuclear wepons should be used more often, sure it might cause the end of the world but hey atleast whats left would glow in the dark |

Then again, I've played Fallout 1 and 2 a lot, and I've seen all the Mad Max movies. So if we get a nuclear armageddon, I'll know how to survive in the wastes. If I survive the nuclear war that is... _________________

War is a part of the human nature.
Even though Munan may be saying what should be, that people will have to learn to change, I'd say in our current state, it's impossible.
Thus, for now, war is a necessary evil. After all, we couldn't have Hitler just have his way in the world war, could we?
If a country strikes another, unprovoked, or whatever, that other country has the right to defend itself, right? Even if the entire planet would become 1 nation, there'd still be civil wars.
So even if you're not a supporter of wars, even you should understand there's always a need to stand up and protect yourself. And today... Where does protection start...? Do we do it before a country is able to fully strike us, when they threaten us they will? Do we make the first steps, in order to limit the damage to ourselves as much as possible...
It's a very difficult topic indeed, and corrupted governments all over the world are not making this easy for us. _________________ Back in action |

War is as much part of human nature as driving cars is.
Strife might be part of human nature, though. _________________ The Justified Ancient of Mu Mu |

You can't deny that jealousy is an embedded part of our nature, right?
And our lack of self control, which directly shoots into action if jealousy exceeds our strength of coping with it. _________________ Back in action |

I think Munan's point is that it is only comparatively recent social and technological advances that make "war" on its current scale possible. Since those have taken place over a timescale that's not even an evolutionary eyeblink, you can't really say that war is part of human nature, any more than, as Munan said, driving a car, or playing Tekken for that matter. Strife, which now has the capacity to lead to war, on the other hand, has presumably been around since one human wanted something another human had and didn't feel like giving to him. This very basic cause for strife has expanded with human culture though - a lot of strife (but probably not as much as people would like to think) is presumably based on idealogical rather than material issues now. _________________ Da Fro-mastah of da aLp Forums!

Chimps have strife. Humans have strife. It's fair to say the common ancestor had strife. Ergo strife is even older than humanity.
Just thought I'd throw that out there. _________________

Hmmmm Perhaps... So Munan means that the wars on the scale we're having, say the last 100 years, have a different drive behind them.
While it is true that most recent wars do not involve the classic 'conquer slab of land over there', they are still often based on what the majority (or governement) of that country believes.
Needless to say, it's an interesting topic. _________________ Back in action |

I don't think you can attribute a moral view on "war". It is an opinion. I mean, I'd venture to guess that each side of the fiasco could view the other as being evil and wouldn't we just divide out that fraction? _________________ "If wishes were horses, we'd all be eating steak." |

War is war. It's just a larger version of terriotorial disputes between animals.
But now, apparently, we believe in human rights.
So why the war?
War is only declared when it is profitable. You think America would have attack Ireland if they mistreated their citizens?
It's a charade for modern-day pillaging, and the rich get richer while the poor get murdered by each other. _________________ System of a Down may not be the best band ever, but Toxicity is definitely the best album. |
