I'm pretty sure he meant Quack. It came out before Quake, but somehow it didn't get the same reputation.
And about the second part, why would it lag when you've got more then 2 teams? I mean, games these days can support like, what... 64 players at the same time? Why not have 4 teams of 16 persons or something.
