Well, yes, I know that sounds great in theory, but when it really happens, it's just emberassing in an 'oh-my-god-where-do-I-direct-my-eyes' way - luckily I had a newspaper with me.
In other disturbing news: the police was controlling whether bicycles had lights the other day. Since I had none and people warned me the police was controlling all around town, I decided to leave my bike, lock it to a fence and walk home. When I came to get it the next day, this had happened to it: clickey

Dude, it's a sauna. Most saunas in the Netherlands are nude affairs. _________________ The Justified Ancient of Mu Mu |

Ah, it must be nice to live in a country that wasn't founded by Puritans...

You never mentioned it was a sauna. You said at the gym. How was I supposed to know? _________________

Yeah, weird - I must have been absent minded when I wrote that post, I could have sworn I said it was a sauna. Anyway.
As for the puritans - those who landed at little rock did live in the Netherlands for a while.
But yeah, I remember I was in this hotel in Hungary and I was sitting there in the sauna with some Hungarians, chatting away and then this American guy in his bermuda shorts comes, in, looks around confusedly and leaves again. Ten minutes later he returns with someone from the management who kindly asks us if we would mind terribly to 'cover up' because apparently mister big fat yankee doesn't want to show his genitals and doesn't like to see ours. We agreed, but maybe we shouldn't have - after all, we weren't in yankeestan, but in good ole Europe and it's not as if it would have been possible the other way around. Hungarian hospitality, I guess.
I like Americans in general, I really do, but it's not difficult to see why they are not very liked around the world if you see how some of them behave. _________________ The Justified Ancient of Mu Mu |

This video is profoundly disturbing and is not for the faint of heart. I mean it, if you have any doubts about your ability to keep food down and heart up do not watch this. If you're curious but don't want to see the thing, here's the basic summary: The USSR wasn't too far from recreating the fictional depiction of Nazi pesudo-science, in particular the "brain in a jar".
Although the film itself may or may not have been staged, the experiments themselves were both successful and widely publicized. The life spans of the subjects as professed by the film were greatly exaggerated however (i.e. minutes not hours, and days not years). In any case I think it's obvious why such experiments were quickly forgotten by most of the world. _________________

I actually found that very fascinating, although I am still quite skeptical about the video itself. So we are left to assume that this experiment was abandoned and no longer active? I don't know if it was stated in the film, but how were the dogs euthenized? Because there are alot of methods that would end up leaving the revived dogs terminally ill for as long as they last.
I was actually surprised this was done by the USSR, rather than the Nazis themselves, because the Soviet Union was mostly interested in cosmology along with astrology at the time, although it makes sense that there is a possibility they were doing something else too. The Nazis actually really were fascinated with the occult along with bizzare anatomy experiments. In many of the prison camps, they performed some very macabre experiments, such as manually making conjoined tiwns that were actually capable of performing like real ones. One of the more disturbing cases was Spoiler: | Removing the fat off an obese man, including the flabby skin, and using the skin to patch up certain areas (i.e the face and anus) and reworking the internals to fucntion by rerouting them and making new holes. The patient suffoacated before they were able to give him oxygen. The picture is profoundly disturbing. |
I wish I were making that up.
Although revival like in the video is fascinating, it is arguably unethical and something we were obviously not meant to exploit, or even test. _________________ Only the strongest will survive.

@Simon. That reminds me of those experiments the Royal Society in England were famous for back in the 17th century, where they disected dogs while they were still alive to find out how their internal organs were working etc. Reputedly managed to keep a few alive with bellows etc, for the lungs for several hours... _________________ Da Fro-mastah of da aLp Forums!

We read a story today in my Comparative Lit. class on a servant girl who is so sleep deprived that she hallucinates her dead relatives at night telling her to sleep. But she can't sleep since she has to take care of the baby that can't stop crying. In the morning, the parents work her so hard, keeping her up. Finally, at the end of the story, she becomes mad and sees the baby as the enemy and strangles it. And then she promptly falls asleep.
