What The Fuck Is The Deal?
*I have not actually read the books, but I have heard alot about them.
I first heard of this series several months ago, and now I keep hearing it pop up frequently. Apparently* it's a teen vampire romance novel, and it's not Goth. The vampires sparkle in daylight. There are indeed werewolves (surprise!). The vampire have some quirky rules. The main character is sex-hungry. Vampires are fucking venomous. Any attempts to suicide require romantic journeys to Italy. Rape is common. Vampires have no souls. And vampires and werewolvs support abortion. Oh, and Edward Cullen is dreamy.
Four books, and it's only now that I have actually heard of this series. It's apparently* going to be the new Harry Potter, but no. It is not the new Harry Potter, that series is the highest selling entry for literature, right behind the Bible. And Edward Cullen is pretty fucking suave.
I have heard next to nothing about Twilight however. Apparently* The books are filled to the brim with clichés, unnecasarrily elaborate details, overused themes and motifs, static chracters, one dynamic character that changes into something you could have seen a mile away, and has a dry plot in half the novels. A bit like Harry Potter, except that JK Rowling understands dynamics (usually). And Edward Cullen is dazzling [pun intended].
It is apparenlty* difficult to read these books without a nifty tool people like to call the willing suspension of disbelief. Apparently* the writer gets confused on what to do with the romance, since it's mostly chaotic. The books start off with a Bible passage taken out of context, really Miss Meyer? One of the characters apparently* turns from a nice guy into a prick for no reason at all. Death by childbrith is an old fad now, stop it. The only thing that actually frightens the main characters lover is the fact that he drives fast. Never mind the vampire part. Bella loves Edward, and it apparently* takes 3 books for the hype to stop. And the books make it damn clear that Edward Cullen is pulchritudinous.
So, again; What The Fuck Is The Deal?
And there's also that movie coming out soon. _________________ Only the strongest will survive.

uh... it's books for chicks. Talk to one -- my guess is that they are very familiar with the,. I haven't read them, but I thought I might give them a shot when I get my next Borders coupon. I don't mind the liberties different authors take. If you are interested in vampire books you really should just read The Historian. Lot of "real" history and plausible rationales in the book. _________________ "If wishes were horses, we'd all be eating steak." |

I'm sure it's alright. I just keep hearing that it's the best thing ever, especially around my school, and how many people are, supposedly, huge fans, even though no one knew what it was before hearing of the movie. Now everyone's reading the books. Although I myself haven't gotten a chance to read any of the books, I was never really interested, but probably will.
I might watch the movie sometime this week or next, too, just to see what the hype is about. |

I actually want to see the movie, it's going to take itself so seriously that it'll be awesome. But if I do end up liking the movie and appreciate Twilight, then... crap. _________________ Only the strongest will survive.

THIS JUST IN!
The movie does not take itself seriously. I have not seen it myself, but that is what I have heard from many; thus eliminating the only reason to why I considered watching it.
Will I ever watch the movie? My only guess is most certainly not now. _________________ Only the strongest will survive.

| Well my sister's watching it. The only reason I ever considered watching it was the piece River Flowing or something like that, which, now, isn't even being used in the movie. At all. |

Well, I made a bet with a girl, so apparently now I have to read the series.
I'm hoping she forgets.
I'm also hoping the plot turns out to be completely different than they're saying, and Edward Cullen actually turns out to be Jason Statham. With a teapot. A fucking teapot.
I'm used to reading things like "A Clockwork Orange" and "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" and "The Discovery and Conquest of Mexico" and "An Oblique Approach."

I've only recently even heard about these books, but from what I've heard I'm predicting that you will regret your decision. _________________

I'm going to regret losing the bet, if that's what you mean. _________________ Why must the government repress our god-given right to no pants? |

| I watched it just yesterday. It was done well unfortunately. It's still not the best thing ever, though, like everybody's claiming. |

11 pages into the first book. That's all I managed and I have not been able to even touch the book since this June.

Crap. I meant "into". A typo that I clearly didn't bother looking for after I wrote that. >< _________________ Yours Queen of Cloud 9
