Deco injured in the warmup. Torres not fully fit and playing like a bag of shite. Fabregas not fully fit and playing like a bag of shite. Berbatov spent three weeks warming a bench with his arse before producing an amazing one assist out of two games. Subbed off Young and Carew, who were listed as "definitely" out, and probably out respectively due to injury. Bought Cattermole who immediately gets suspended. Fantasy Football is really starting to ruin my enjoyment of the game. My brother 100% seriously told me I should quit FF because of how angry I get now watching football. _________________

(Primarily for the edification of cfos) This week's scores are Sal 587, Aurelyn 579, Chainsaw 577.
Kinda glad I gave Torres another week to turn it around. Not so glad that I subbed off Carew, and he scored again. _________________

Wow. Somebody had a good week! Y'all are surprisingly close after what seemed to be a runaway start. How far along is the season? More Trash Talk. Y'all are too cordial. _________________ "If wishes were horses, we'd all be eating steak." |

Pretty soon I hope to be as good at this as a Polish guy with a passing interest in the English Premier League. The season is 6 gameweeks in. _________________

which Polish guy? *looks around* i don't see any...
oh.
in my defence i can say it's hard to keep your interest high having only the websites to feed it, no real old fashioned game watching availlable.
'sides, i seem to be doing well enough without interfering in my team, so maybe it's best kept that way.
edit: i brought Gerrard back though. loyalty pays (i hope).
brought in Defoe, too. it didn't really work out between van Persie and me. _________________ i have no time for anal love

Wait... I don't understand... if this is the world's most popular sport... why can't you watch it on TV? Sure, I pay some $$ for the baseball package with DirecTV, but I get to watch just about all the games ('cept blackouts on network on Saturdays, and some ESPN games) for every team. Likewise, I have XM radio where I can listen to all the games/no blackouts. I could do the same for basketball and "American" football? Are all y'all still on black-n-white television? Do Eurpeans still have like 5 channels...? Is the "sports bar" an American-only phenomenon? _________________ "If wishes were horses, we'd all be eating steak." |

i got cable, which means i can watch what the channels included in the cable have licences for. that's not a lot. the German football league, for instance, i could watch if i wanted (cept i don't, coz it sucks). or Portuguese, i think.
the broadcast rights to the best European leagues, English, Spanish and Italian, are all owned by a channel that is available, but paid extra. (and indeed, it being the most popular sports in the continent doesn't help the prices go down). end of the road for me (specially given my current location).
to top that, until very recently i couldn't even watch the Polish football league for the same reason. now the rights are co-owned with the public channel, so i can have a taste from time to time. too bad Polish league is unwatchable, though.
and yes, there do exist versions of sports bars around here but, being unsociable by nature, i don't go.
btw, you do realize that "Europeans" is quite a varied lot, don't you? _________________ i have no time for anal love

We have to pay to watch most of the Premiership matches here in Ireland too. For big matches, I just go to the pub. Otherwise, I just watch the highlights. _________________ Da Fro-mastah of da aLp Forums!

To answer your question first, Sal, I do know that you are a varied lot (Re: Europeans). My presumption is result of the fact that I didn't know the league stuff that you described, and the fact that this fanatasy league includes a Brit (not sure, but that's my guess for the Master Chainsaw), a Pole (you) and the Irish. I assumed that there was this "major" league that all y'all (Europeans) watched/followed while other local/club, etc. leagues were also in existance, just not given as much attention. For me, I'm a baseball fan and I think I pay a few hundred dollars or so to get the "baseball" package, because otherwise, I'd see only a game or 3 a week and they'd often be teams I wouldn't be interested in. Relative to the "sports" bars, I am naive as to whether all "Europeans" are similar regarding going to them -- which you clarified. Carry on. _________________ "If wishes were horses, we'd all be eating steak." |

They barely show soccer/football over here; gotta have cable if you're going to watch it. ESPN shows some of the Champion League games and only a handful of MLS games. I think it only got more of a showing when Beckham debuted over here and they had their little "Beckham cam." *puke* _________________ "Yeast devil! Back to the oven that baked you!" |

The only thing "Europeans" have in common is the continent they live on. And not even that for some of us. Stop saying soccer.

Internationals coming up, so no league futebol next week. Also, Skrtel might be hurt, he's having a scan tomorrow, so I'd advise against buying him anytime soon.

Yup, this week I just forgot, rather than forgot to save changes. Sigh. I suspect this restores the natural order of things, since I am far too busy at the moment watching the rugby to pay enough attention to the soccer. Celtic League shaping up to be a good one this year, and the opening matches of the European Cup start next week. _________________ Da Fro-mastah of da aLp Forums!

just when i started to wonder whether not to replace Xavi Alonso with someone else, he scores a winner against Chelsea and sends me back to the top of the table. that's the beauty of (fantasy) football. _________________ i have no time for anal love

The moment I sold Robinho for Rooney, the boy from Brazil scores a hat-trick and Rooney starts playing like Andy Sinton (sorry Andy). I also need to get a new keeper, since mine plays at the club who had only 21 on target shots against them at the start of this week.

One of the weirdest hat-tricks ever. One goal scored was because the ball hit him on the foot and flew in over the keeper. _________________

Nah, t'other one when he looped it over the goalie. He just slid in for the ball and it rolled up his boot. No way he meant that. _________________
