That Arsenal have a weaker squad than last year, unhappy players and a crap captain?
P.S. Dear Tottenham, fucking sell Berbatov already, he cost me £9 million and he's played about twenty minutes of football.
P.P.S. Fabregas get off your pansy continental arse and play some football next week or I'll be selling you for Deco. _________________

Stevie G. scores in stoppage time to secure a victory! all those points come rolling in...
what worries me is Robbie Keane's form though. is he going to get close to some goals finally? _________________ i have no time for anal love

funny thing. i have two Arsenal defenders in the squad and both times so far, the one i keep on the bench is the one who plays in the actual game, and vice versa. _________________ i have no time for anal love

He's not going to score every week, you know. Plus Liverpool's one and only attack strategy is 'straight through the middle with Torres'. Keane's more of a goal-hanger. They need a good left sided guy to put in some crosses. Doesn't look like it'll be Barry. _________________

Get yer teams in by 1130 tomorrow, boys. 1030 for Sally, I guess.
Hopefully Fabregas will play against the Geordies. He had 66 minutes against Enschede's finest during the week. Be nice too, if Scharner didn't spend 2/3 of his time listed as having an ankle injury.
Tough break on Gerrard, btw.
Also, Fulham and Man U aren't playing at all this week. _________________

Hey, so I'm hoping all y'all that are doing this will keep the rest of us up to date on who's "winning", trash talk, etc. Granted I'm not a fan of the game, but I would like to see how y'all do. I mean, who knows... maybe I'll bump into one of the two Americans that like soccer and can sound as though I know what I'm talking about.
Good luck to y'all! _________________ "If wishes were horses, we'd all be eating steak." |

3 weeks in, i'm the leader with 302 pts amassed so far.
Aurelyn's 2nd with 288.
and Chainsaw's dragging behind with measly 255. who'd have guessed it's his folks that invented the game in the first place? _________________ i have no time for anal love

I'd be on 290 if it had saved the changes I made in the first week. Silly me for thinking that it would have because I clicked on the save button, OK'd it and saw the message saying my changes were saved.
The real question is, has Sal figured out why he's doing so well? Because the explanation is quite amusing. _________________

So, it sounds like doing well is getting about 100 pts a week? Sounds like it will be interesting -- keep the rest of us posted unless Sal runs away with it. _________________ "If wishes were horses, we'd all be eating steak." |

Desperation defending. Yobo in particular has made 31 clearances (meaning 31 points for that alone) because Everton have been constantly under the cosh every game this season. To a lesser degree it's also true of Ćorluka, who has had to make tackle after tackle because City were constantly under pressure even in the games they won. (Both of which ended with extremely flattering scorlines for them.) Be interesting to see if the big lad from Croatia keeps raking in the points at Spurs.
Defenders from teams that have been playing much better don't get anywhere near the chance to score that many points, because their midfield is keeping the ball, and their defence is organised and preventing attacks, rather than desperately hacking the ball out of their box all game long. In most fantasy football games defenders only get bonus points for clean sheets, so you'd want to be picking guys from Liverpool, Man U and Chelsea. If you look at the list of high scoring (45+ points) defenders (Lescott, Laursen, Davies, Turner, Yobo etc.) most of them are playing at teams with dodgy defences so far this season, and have made 25-35 clearances. The one exception to not profit from this rule is Everton's Jagielka*, who is a far better defender than any of those guys except Lescott, but just isn't raking in the points with endless clearances.
Sal's strike force has netted a pathetic points total, but his defenders are scoring so highly it doesn't matter.
*Three guesses which Everton defender is in my squad. _________________

not my fault that's how scoring looks in guardian's ff. of which none other than you, not further than on last page, said

fascinating.
p.s. not my fault either that Tevez and Keane, both of whom used to be among top scorers last season, are sucking ass this time around. i brought in van Persie to see if something can be done about the disproportion of scoring on my team. _________________ i have no time for anal love

I'm not mocking you, and I'm not sure why you think I am. On the contrary, I've appropriated your strategy already and bought in Huth and Turner, scramble defenders extraordinaire. Saved me enough money to get Barry as well. And Van Persie is a good buy. He'll step up to become a world class player this season. The thing I find amusing is how unusual (and detailed) the scoring system is, which was why I wanted to play the Guardian game in the first place. I'm doing quite well in a more traditional League elsewhere, because I'm used to that sort of system.
Tevez doesn't suck ass, he isn't playing most of the time. He will be from now on, though. If you look at pretty much any team in the Guardian game, defenders are massively outscoring forwards.
It's impossible to predict anything in football. Look at my squad: I picked Fabregas, he got injured. Torres, injured. _________________

oh, i guess i just like being defensive.
the thing is, i don't really have a strategy, i ended up with Yobo and Corluka on day 1 because they happened to be the right price, and then i kept on adding whoever was recommended in the weekly e-mails. seeing as i don't know over half of the players available this was the only strategy i could adopt. proves moderately successful so far.
i may consider buying Tevez back, but i've sure had enough of Keane already. do you perchance know when Gerrard's scheduled to be back on track? i feel i should be loyal at least to one player i originally chose. _________________ i have no time for anal love

Only that he's expected to be back playing by the end of the month. He'll be recuperating while the international qualifiers are being played, so I suppose it's possible he'll be back for the Man U game on the 13th. Two to three weeks seems to be what I'm hearing from most places. _________________

Just to keep everyone current, I have stormed into the lead this week with 395 points, Sal is in second with 375, and Chainsaw is on 316.
I will refrain from any editorial comments on any of the above scores. _________________ Da Fro-mastah of da aLp Forums!
