So I'm watching a re-run of Battlestar Galactica -- the episode where Baltair is being called a traitor. Anyway, there is a bathroom scene where I was just struck by two things: (1) First time I've seen a bathroom on a spaceship, and (2) there are no realistic bathroom scenes in television or movies. Relevant to point two, there is no televised scene where any... "noise" is ever heard in a bathroom. This is so far from reality. I have yet to go into a "public" bathroom where someone isn't dropping kids off for a day at the pool and NO sound is produced. Whether it be the expected gassy burst or perhaps the sound of something dumped into water or even the sound of tp unrolling... Can anyone name a show or a movie where this occurs? I'm curious. _________________ "If wishes were horses, we'd all be eating steak." |

I noticed this, too. The last taboo, perhaps?
It's pretty likely that any show that presented realistic bathroom scenes would do so for humor. _________________ Context is everything. |

The most realistic I've ever seen was in Tenacious D: The Pick of Destiny. It was not very realistic... BUt hey, better than most I've seen. _________________ Only the strongest will survive.

Not sure I recall the scene in the TD movie... I was thinking of the "story" scene in Resevior Dogs as being close to an actual description, but I think it is more of the taboo that Blaster suggests. _________________ "If wishes were horses, we'd all be eating steak." |

How about in Scream? Besides the fact there was a psycho killer in there, it all seemed pretty normal to me. _________________

Don't recall the Scream scene off the top of my head... Was there flushing, unrolling of tp or other... associated sounds?
In addition: The other thing I don't get is the amount of talking that goes on when there is a bathroom scene in TV or the movies. Seriously, I've yet to go into a "public" bathroom where there is even half the jawing that goes on as the tv/film industry would have us belief. It's like when they show a cat, they have to have a "meow" sound -- cats are never that vocal. _________________ "If wishes were horses, we'd all be eating steak." |

Well, in the Scream scene, the main chick was sitting on the toilet when 2 other girls came in and started talking about what a slut she was and then they left and then the main girl came out of the cubicle thingy and then the killer jumped her and she ran...
I did see an episode of Six Feet Under once where one guy was brushing his teeth while his girlfriend was taking a dump and reading a mag... that had the appropriate sounds and stuff. _________________

Aha! But such a thing seems to be a rarity. _________________ Context is everything. |

In Japan you've got a panel with a whole range of sound effects on it to disguise any noises you might make. Seriously taboo over there... _________________ Da Fro-mastah of da aLp Forums!

I may have to seek out that 6 ft under now that it's on bravo or some channel. Hmm... I wonder if they'll edit it. Good find Aramor!
I heard about the Japanese toliets with the buttons, but then I thought:

I think we've established by now that Japanese are weird. _________________

What, Jeff Daniels in "Dumb and Dumber" wasn't real enough for you?
At least, that's how all MY bathroom visits seem to go... that can't be healthy, huh? |
