So I've watched the trailer five or six times in the last week, and I'm actually beginning to get hopeful. AVP 1 was an unremitting pile of wank, but I have a little hope. The writer and directors don't exactly have a great pedigree, but on the other hand... The Aliens have looked crap in films for the last twenty years. Bad CGI after bad CGI. In AVP 1 they were shiny space velociraptors, ffs. The xenos in the new trailer look closer to the cock headed space bugs of the seventies and eighties. Similarly, the Predators in AVP 1 also looked dire. Unconvincing men in clumsy rubber muscle suits. The Pred(s?) seen in this trailer looks closer to the athletic original, with the body of a fighter, not a lumbering oaf.

Certainly it's easy to take the only good bits of a film and create a trailer that gives a false impression of quality, but I might actually venture to the cinema for this one.

I guess it seems like obsessing over trivial fanboy details, but if you fail to create the right atmosphere, you're dead and buried before the first scene is filmed. Hey, at least it's got a disposable cast of nobodies to kill in nasty ways. And Reiko Aylesworth sure is easy on the eye. Plus: Violence!

I was talking to my brother about AVP 1 today, and he remarked that the Preds in that film looked like Power Rangers monsters. I'd say that pretty much sums it up far more concisely than I did.

The Predators in AVP were too bulky and bestial. They weren't the legendary horror icons that they were representing, they were watered-down 300-looking things with a Predator exterior.

Am I the only one who likes AVP 1? It wasn't the worlds best movie, but I had a lot of fun watching it.

I thought they did a very good job on the monsters in that movie also, but the predators were too massive.
