The Rugby World Cup starts tonight with France v Argentina. I'm so excited. A month of international rugby! And for once a sport in which Ireland are actually ranked fifth in the world! (coughcoughaheadofenglandcoughcough).
We've got our first match against Namibia on Sunday, which might go badly, cos inexperienced teams (especially if they're all nine foot tall Africans) make for injuries. _________________ Da Fro-mastah of da aLp Forums!

rugby?
meh.
the only sport we are ranked top 5 in the world is... um... there gotta be one... ski jumping! that's right, we got the single bestest ski jumper in the world. that's it, our ambitions are so fulfilled. _________________ i have no time for anal love

We really are. Hopefully Eddie's got some mad plan to leave all our good players on the bench and send some victims out to scrape the win. We're far too thin on the ground reserve wise... _________________ Da Fro-mastah of da aLp Forums!

Dupe the Polish ski jump team into taking the place of your players. _________________

If your U-21 football team of workmanlike jobbers could humiliatingly defeat Portugal that'd be nice too. I hate those guys.
I guess not. Oh well. That was a pretty big gulf in quality. _________________

It was a long shot... What have you got against Portugal?
In other news, Argentina beating France was a bit of an upset. It was quite amusing to see the two biggest bottlers in international rugby, Contemponi and Michelac, on the same pitch today, fucking up when it counted most... _________________ Da Fro-mastah of da aLp Forums!

Their senior team keeps undeservingly knocking England out of major tournaments on penalties, after not playing particularly well. And Ronaldo is a prick. _________________

speaking of which, we're playing Portugal tonight, senior teams, Euro 2008 qualifier. a surprising Polish win isn't entirely out of the question, but i don't promise anything. especially since they'll be dying to prove that the sensational beating we handed to them last year was purely accidental.
the England-Portugal battles are classic. i always root for you too. last year i was lucky to be in London at that time and watched the match in an actual English pub alongside actual English football fans. but could you please learn to shoot the bloody penalties?
and for the sake of accuracy, we ain't got a team of ski jumpers. at team competitions we always have Finnish, Norwegian and German dicks deep down our throats. we have one superhuman jumper who's individually won more trophies than all other Polish sportsmen past and present combined. _________________ i have no time for anal love

Yeah, but one guy versus an entire rugby team isn't much of a contest. _________________

certainly not. not even a superhuman one.
and would you believe we came back from Lisbon with a 2-2 draw? a draw, may i add, we didn't deserve in the slightest, being a weaker team on all fronts, but hey, you don't win points in football for being good but for taking advantage of whatever chances you get. Potruguese wasted 5-6 brilliant goal opportunities, while we grabbed 2 out of 3 we had.
we might actually win this group. _________________ i have no time for anal love

I was impressed. Good ol' show from England as well. Ireland, however, managed to throw our victory away in the final minutes of the game. Typical.
And we managed to play the worst rugby I've seen in years against Namibia yesterday. At least it was Namibia, and we still won, but there's no chance in hell we're making it out of our group if we continue to play like that. _________________ Da Fro-mastah of da aLp Forums!

yeah, i saw the scores on tv and was like "wtf? Namibia plays rugby?"
and sorry bout the Slovakians, it was a bitch of a last second goal. now you see what happens when you underestimate the Slavs, Portugal got the exact same lesson _________________ i have no time for anal love

Yeah, I was relatively pleased we won at footy, rugby and cricket on the same day. The rugby should've been as straight-forward as the other two. We made hard work of beating the USA, which is a little sad given the gulf in ability, experience and power between the two sides. I rather think that they had one eye on future ties (Ireland probably did too) and that accounts for the poor performance. Didn't seem to bother South Africa, they took Samoa apart easy enough, even if their kicking looked a little suspect. Habana is gonna be difficult for any team to deal with. _________________

He really is - I really think the Boks have a good chance of taking down New Zealand this year. Friday is England v South Africa isn't it? _________________ Da Fro-mastah of da aLp Forums!

Yep. They've got some very strong Forwards, I think they'll make a lot of opportunities for him if we're not careful. Alternatively, Vickery could just kick him. _________________

It was a magnificent kung-fu trip - luckily for England, Schalk Burger is suspended as well. Looks like a zero-tolerance world cup for shenanigans! _________________ Da Fro-mastah of da aLp Forums!

My god, could England actually have been humiliated any more on the pitch last night. Unbelievable. I'm just glad it wasn't Ireland out there. We probably wouldn't have fared much better. _________________ Da Fro-mastah of da aLp Forums!

It was pathetic, literally the worst performance ever. Two easy tries thrown away, and for the rest, they just capitulated. Only Robinson seemed to give a shit. At least we pwned a credible Russia side in the football. _________________

Ireland's performance against Georgia wasn't a whole lot better - they were bloody lucky not to lose the match by a couple of tries. _________________ Da Fro-mastah of da aLp Forums!

I think the All Blacks are my least favourite team in the world - they take the worship of aggression way too far. Tremendously skillful, but also violent thugs. I still haven't forgiven them for that first minute spear tackle on O' Driscoll during the Lions tour that nearly killed him. _________________ Da Fro-mastah of da aLp Forums!

Any of you guys ever played rugby? Maybe since most rugby enthusiasts aren't American (like me), and most of you all are, you must have played. I played my freshman and sophomore year until my knee cartilage deteriorated and I had to get those 5 surgeries. In the short time I got to play rugby, I really got to understand the culture and mystique that surrounds rugby. It's participants are always the most enthusiastic about their sport, and the fans... what can I say, rugby fans are the best!
I was a prop btw. _________________ "Gravitation cannot be held responsible for people falling in love." - Albert Einstein |

During my short tenure as a rugby player at school, I played outside centre. I gave it up in favour of hockey when I got sick of getting creased by players much bigger and stronger than I was. It's still my favourite game to watch though. Chess on a pitch! _________________ Da Fro-mastah of da aLp Forums!
