even as we speak, i'm watching the first predator, which raises some interesting questions about the predator's body
here's all i know
predators have neon green blood
predators have a mouth which resembles a mutated crab or a spider
predators see in a different spectrum(infra-red or heat vision)
what i wonder is, do they hear things differently, because when the predator in the first movie is stalking the soldiers, their voices are distorted.
does that mean they hear things differently? |

It was his Bio-mask that created the static-sounding voices. Or at least that's what I'm thinking.
One reason they may see differently is because our atmosphere is supposedly different than whatever their species is used to. |

Grr...they weren't originally able to see in infrared. In Predator, after the pred took off his mask, he could no longer see infrared. (In fact, he couldn't see very well at all by the ambient light of the sun.) In Predator 2, after the pred removes his mask, he can STILL see in infrared. | It's a minor continuity error. Either that, or the theory that Jungle Hunter being color-blind is true. |

Uh, no. If the pred was color blind, we wouldn't see any color in it's mask vision now would we? _________________

what would you call the normal vision the preds have then? the best thing i can think of is calling it infrared or heat vision |

Why? Just because it looks "red?"
After the pred removed his mask in the first movie, he couldn't see very well at all. He could only perceive some outlines. This would suggest that the pred's eyes were not sensitive to very many of the wavelengths of light emitted by our sun. _________________ Context is everything. |

Pff your science is no match for franchise 'canon'.
canon n 1 a some trivial detail made up by a screenwriter or SFX guy with no scientific background, to fit the needs of the story they want to tell, which may well be changed anyway by some scumfuck studio executive's directive because it didn't play well with the focus group* that they test screened the film for. Causal factor in a ridiculous amount of internet arguments (see also: special olympics). Canon is such a subject of slavish devotion of the fanboy/fangirl that it is considered indisputable, and subsequent breaches of canon by the same franchise are simply explained away by some fabricated piece of specious pseudo-logic, e.g. "The rapid gestation time of the chestburster in AVP was clearly a necessity resulting from the harsh environment, and the fact there were no drones to serve and protect the queen. omg noob u r teh ghey."
*focus group n 1 a a bunch of people rounded up from a shopping mall during working hours on a weekday, therefore ensuring a selection of discerning and intelligent cinema enthusiasts.
No-one likes inconsistency. Ruins the sense of immersion, and suspension of disbelief. But it is just a film, children. _________________

@Chainsaw: Nice.
But I'll still argue these points on a scientific basis, even if it puts me in danger of winning the Special Olympics. It makes me feel like I'm getting more mileage out of my physics degree. _________________ Context is everything.

Yes, but we're not colour blind. _________________ Da Fro-mastah of da aLp Forums!

The predators do not see naturally in infrared.
End of discussion, I don't care what the second movie showed. Also, I would like to point out that the predators come from a very hot and very dry homeworld and are most comfortable in hot environs (for example, both P1 and P2). Just thought I'd add to the original idea of this thread. _________________ You forget one thing: rock crushes scissors. But paper covers rock... and

I always believed that the original Pred had some kinda vision disorder, and his mask somehow improved his vision. And regarding the sound, the Pred could hear us speak normally up until he removed his mask, at which point Dutch's voice became abnormally high and squeaky. _________________ I'm outtie, y'all. | there's one question we'd need to ask ourselves, just how big a part of a predator's life is his suit. if the species had the suit for a very long time, they may have evolved towards being better while being in the suit. that would mean that the vision in the mask was the proper one, the one that really was important, while the one without the mask would just be missing another layer. as if a human had a problem with his eyeballs, them being a bit burned because of looking at the sun |

I think it's pretty safe to assume that the mask is unnecessary for daily activities. Also, I am not sure of the point that you are making with your evolutionary argument. _________________ Context is everything. |

Sure it does. You just have to eat a lot of the smaller fish and avoid the randomly attacking shark.
Also. Predator poop. How much, where from, what colour, what smell? Also viscosity.
Commence discussion. _________________ bitchez n hose |

How much: Enough
Where from: Where it's supposed to.
What color: Whatever it's supposed to be.
What smell: See 'color'.
Viscosity: Depends on the medication.
Also evolution does happen overnight. Every time you make whoopy, you pass on your genes to the next generation. That's evolution. _________________

But who says people only "make whoopy" during the night?
And what about condoms? Have they then become evolution's greatest enemy, besides Christianity? _________________
