Has anyone heard about Guillermo del Toro's new independent film, "Pan's Labyrinth"?
I went to see the movie today, and it was more than what I expected. "Pan's Labyrinth" is a dark fantasy taking place in 1940s postwar Spain, which has an almost surreal feel to it. The theme of the heroine's (in this movie's case) journey is present along with finding one's inner strength. I won't give away anything plot-wise, just in case some here do want to see it. Although not everyone likes independent films, "Pan's Labyrinth" was one movie I thoroughly appreciated and would recommend. _________________ When life hands you lemons, you make some lemonade. I saw that. It was alot more mature than I thought. Spoiler: | Especially when the Captain got his cheeck cut open. |
But I thought it was pretty good overall. _________________ Only the strongest will survive.

I seriously agree with you on that on, Azrael. *shudders* What really creeped me out was:
Spoiler: | when the captain started beating that farmer's face in with the liquor bottle. Not a good way to go. |

I agree, and I can tell by your icon what sort of impact it made on you. We should have stayed for a second showing considering what we paid to go see it. Sheesh, $9 for a movie ticket on a Friday night? Never again. _________________ When life hands you lemons, you make some lemonade. I think it was marvelous. I saw it as a war drama, fairy tale, and a brutal education about life wrapped up into one. I don't think there was a dry eye in the theatre by the end. _________________ "I do not feel obliged to believe that the same God who has endowed us with sense, reason, and intellect has intended us to forgo their use."

It was a very good movie. I will say that my roommates and I were quite creeped out though but only during some parts. Amazingly enough, most of those parts included the captain.
Spoiler: | The thin man who eats children was something we'd rather not see. Although on the other hand, one of my roomies and I thought about how long he would last against a pred. 2 seconds or less. |

Spoiler: | I found it funny how the baby-eater put his hands up to his forehead to make his face. It looked rather amusing. I wanted to cut his hands off and see what he would do then. |

That's one of the new running gags around my apartment.
Spoiler: | One of my roommates puts her hands on her forehead and tries to chase me or the other roommate. |
I just threaten her back with the Pred plushie. _________________ When life hands you lemons, you make some lemonade. When life hands you a 7-8 foot tall Yautja male...you make short work of him...and leave it up to your imagination. |

Just saw this movie yesterday. Very influential, and quite brutal, yes. I thoroughly enjoyed it. _________________

My best Friend saw it this week too, and loved it. It's just so great. I can't wait to buy it on DVD! It would be totally rad if criterion did it!
(yep... I said 'rad') |

Probably sometime during the summer, or maybe a bit later, like in September. Not sure. _________________
