Well, Valve showed off a new game/mod they're cooking up that I hear will be released with HL Episode 2.

I'll be interested to see how fast it will take for the term 'Portal Whore' to come up... _________________

That looks absolutely friggin' awesome. I just wish it was something being implemented into the game, and not a seperate game itself. _________________ You forget one thing: rock crushes scissors. But paper covers rock... and

Apparently there are rumors that the portal device will replace the Gravity Gun in either Episode 2 or 3, and Portal has been confirmed to be set in the Half-Life universe (recognize the energy cores and turret sounds?). The portal gun seems like it will also function as a Gravity Gun, minus the 'punt' option (notice in the trailer that the player could pick up turrets, seemingly just like the grav-gun).
I would be really amped if there was some kind of multiplayer mode for Portal. Think about the possibilities. If you think there's a camper in the next room, just fire a portal into it and you got a perfect window for flushing them out. Better yet, camp your enemies from the other side of the map and simply close the portal if you're attacked. Or wait, drop a portal at someone's feet and watch as they are flung out from a 4 story window. Even better, one guy barges right into enemy lines, plants a portal behind them, FLANKD!
And that's only in PvP. Try thinking about co-op! _________________

If they don't implement some sort of multiplayer, they are fools... _________________ You forget one thing: rock crushes scissors. But paper covers rock... and

I figure that they want to get things worked out before they introduce the portal gun into a HL game. Or maybe having the portal gun would just make things too easy in HL, so portal is going to be maintained in a separate game. It seemed like everything they showed so far is more puzzle-oriented, as if most the whole game was about testing the gun for "Aperture Industries" or whatever.
Also, regarding Simon's observation about the portal gun having the ability to pick up things: maybe those turrets are just light enough that the character can pick them up with the "use" key. I dunno. _________________ Context is everything. |

But in other source games, doesn't the weapon disappear when you pick up somthing with the use key?
And yes, the portal gun probably won't make it into Half Life E2, but it should still make some pretty good gameplay for multipalyer, since the other players also have portal guns.
However I'm wondering what the limits of the portal gun are. If you can turn people into walking portal gates then that would realy be cool, yet fucked up. _________________
