i fancy France to do very well , i know everyone will disagreee due to the form in the group stage , but then again , the group stages are about squeezing through thats all , sorta like a game of poker , you dont want to show all your hand straight away , france will keep some in reserve

interesting theory. however, they didn't look to me like they were deliberately keeping low profile, they rather looked like they didn't really have many good arguments. well, they're in for Spain now, and Spain were never a good tournament team, so it's either way, i guess.

how's about Switzerland finishing top of the group? freakin surprise!
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

...... LOl 3-1 to France vs Spain, looked impressive to me , well like i said mate , keep your eye on france......... what i said seems so much more accurate now , while playing football with mates today i grew tired of the comments on how rubish france are, but i kept quitely confident and now im laughing

about the other guys comment , The reff was fantastic , can you argue that the four reds werent reds ? I dont think so and the problem with the sixteen yellow was the ref booked players early in the game for petty fouls this set a standard which the ref had to stick to , nothing wrong ,

Figo is a washed up nothing and his actions should have him tried for assult and finned heavily

Portugal deserved to be punished heavily and they were simple as ..... as much as i hate england , i hope they F**k Portugal up in the next round

"ain't nothing gonna break my stride"

well, for the first time in the cup germany was behind. but they came through with a beautiful goal (i'm starting to love klose). the game was a real thriller, unfortunately i had to leave after regular playing time, but i got the rest over my cell phone. i suspected them to go into overtime, but i thought germany would seal the deal there (there was no doubt in my mind that argentina wouldn't make it in overtime), instead lehmann made the day, spectacular as well.

the semi against italy will be a real burner, especially because of the amount of italian people in germany. i'm really looking forward to it, i think pretty much every city will be in absolute chaos no matter what happens Very Happy

i wish i would have seen the game against the ukraine though, i can't get a handle on the italians. if they play anything like they played against ghana i'd put my money down for germany, because italy would get it bad. but it seems they did a good job with the ukraine, meybe they're coming now...

Well, there was a famous Dutch football player who was once asked for a definition of the game. His answer:

"Football is two teams of eleven men and a ball. They try to score. And in the end, Germany wins"

Lol.

I really wished Argentina would have won but...

And Italy cheated at the end of thier match agaisnt Australia. That wasn't a foul! And it wasn't even worth a penalty kick if it was!

Yeah, well... Germany got fucked yesterday. God, how I hate Italian football. But it was - I say grudgingly - a deserved victory for the Italians.

EDIT:

5-7-2006, France-Portugal

A team of French eminences grises against what looked more like the Portugese National Theatre Company than a football team. I hate that kind of yellow-card-free-kick-begging acting that Portugal and especially Ronaldo seems to specialise in. I also think Scolari is a complete idiot that should be removed from anyplace near the football field.

Did you see how Zidane took that panelty? That was just divine!

So, yeah, Vive la France!! Vive Zizou!!! MAGNIFIQUE!!!!!

Now go and teach the Italians how to play football.

It's fox hunting time!

But really, the Portuguese were labbelled by the frikken FIFA admin as a team 'with potential for brutality.' Of course the fucking referee was against them.

But whatever, I now lost interest in the tourney. On one side a bunch of cheaters who didn't deserve to get to the finals, and on the other a bunch of frogs who only won because the refs were on thier side.

France-Italy...

He was my hero... How could he end his career like that...?

I was literally crying when he got that red card. I know it sounds stupid, but that's how it was for me.

(clicky-->) this is exacly how I feel about it - although it's about the english team, it pretty much sums up my emotions while watching the final ten minutes of yesterday's match.

I can't help but make a joke that will be offensive to some people...

The Muslims in France are probably going to riot again.

Now that I got that out of the way, Zidane was really a childish dumbass. *Flush* Oops there goes his career.

hooray indeed.
though they could have ended it in a slightly more convincing style than penalties, but i guess we can take it for poetic justice (vide 1994).

and as for ZZ, i dunno how it is elsewhere but in London, where i'm currently and temporarily residing, it is him that got the front pages of all papers, not Cannavaro with the cup, which would be much more logical. it says something about his superstar status. he'll be alright as a football legend, i think.

No, I am sure it wan't school.

Maybe it was tennis? Wibbledin is tennis?

But that wasn't Lance Armstrong, that was the Fort Knight. I remember.

Wait, Lance Armstrong maybe won that thing in Japan, the Sushi Wrestling?

Why, it's not very different from what Jacques Chirac told the man after the match...
