I'm surprised no-one did this yet.

Alanis Morisette ranks very, very high on my list of some of the worst music to ever make it big.

I actually like Alanis. But to each his own. ;P

I think Britney Spears and all reincarnations of her are the bane and plague of the music industry. Justin Timberlake ranks up high on there as well. He started beatboxing, and he's just doing simple beats while musical instruments play in the background; which totally ruins the beatboxing image and why beatboxing is done. He's got the lowest scores on one of the biggest beatboxing communities (their homepage).

Okay... just about every group that existed in 2000 or after that has ahd thier song played on any of my city's radio stations except for 94.7 and 102.1 (Chinese and Classical stations repsectively).

Seriously, music fo the 21st century made in North America plain sucks in my opinion. The media basically censors most non-American/Canadian music over here so I can't judge beyond the east or west coasts.

But if I had to choose one, well I'm not well versed, but I pick Green Day. "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" was the worst song of this or last century, ever. What made it worse was that it was palyed by practically every radio station evry 5 minutes.

I DON'T GIVE A SHIT IF YOU WALK ALONE! STOP WALLOWING IN SELF PITY AND DOING SOMTHING ABOUT IT!

Alanis is cool. i happen to like her hysteric over-the-edge style.

i agree with Simon about the new bands in 2000's except for one guy - Jack White. here's a real talent among the piles of crap. and while i never really took to the Stripes, some of their (his) songs, along with the newest Raconteurs thingy are truly high level stuff.

and to answer the question, teenage pop-punk is probably my top candidate for worst thing ever to happen to music.

if we're talking teen pop queenies, then there definitely are worse choices than ms. Britney. take for example the lovely-though-not-too-bright ms. Jessica Simpson, and her newest single which shockingly (money makes the world go around) features the venerable Willie Nelson himself. unlistenable.

I'm gonna sidetrack from the good and safe way of hatin' on pop singers and say Pennywise.

Jesus fuck christ. Those guys don't have one good song. They make the post-Danzig Misfits seem listenable. Even Sum41 and blink-182 managed to pull off a few songs that don't make you want to start gnawing your own wrists out, despite being corporate assclowns.

Do music a favour. Kick a CD-stand with Pennywise records today.

Exception is Gwen Stefani...all her music kicks ass. Bananas! B-A-N-A-N-A-S!!

Here's some singers/bands who rock.

Dir En Grey is fugging awesome, whoever hasn't heard of them need to look them up...and btw their type of music is called Visual Kei, if you didn't know.

Camui Gackt: He's really good singer. Also look him up!!

i actually like blink 182, it's one of the few bands that i've listened to consistently since i was 13. same goes for green day, love the stuff.

i absolutely HATE dido, even though i have to admit that her songs aren't that bad, she just ruined stan for me. and i don't care which song was there first. stan was awesome, twas pretty much my favorite song for months. then dido's "thank you" came out, radio started blaring it constantly, and "stan" was ruined for me.

I hate about 99% of those damn indie/hipster/retro/ironic groups that are all over the fucking place today. Their music mostly sucks, and their tight black jeans, white shoes, and bad 70s hairstyles make me want to puke.

Actually, the song by Paris Hilton is quite decent. It takes me a lot of concentration to not like that song.

And the best reason for liking and not liking songs is of course whether or not it will make people take you serious...

Actually, I stopped worrying about those things a long time ago. Elvis and the beatles were described in much the same words you use for Britney (of whom, let it be clear, I am no fan). Me? I just like pop-music. And Britney has made some superb pop-songs.

- This is just my opinion. To me, the term "superb pop song" has about the same meaning as "beautiful automobile accident" or "sweet-smelling cat turd."
