Actually, in the theoretical zombie survival guide, islands would only be safe for a few months before a random ship (likely infested) crashed ashore and the wandering zombies roamed the island for a few hours and found your island fortress, then youre in deep shit when they stack up around the walls and youre no better off than all the people hiding in malls, prisons, and forts on the mainland.

I thought the Zombie Survival Guide said the only way zombies can get to islands is if they wash up on it, never thought of an infested ship, damn.

You've obviously never read Max Brooks' Ultimate Zombie Survival Guide. The guy has obviously thought this through, but hes a total nut and actually believes in zombies and their roles throughout history.

A mall could be a great fortress, depending on its structure and locale, if it has a parking garage that you dont know about, they will get in and cause death and zombification a la Dawn of The Dead, but if its just a little shopping center with a few doors and outside parking, you could last months if you found dirt and planted vegetables in the main lobby sunroof area.

The only zombie guide I have ever read is Max Brook's. I just haven't picked it up in a year, so I'm a little rusty on the exact places that are optimal zombie safe zones.
