I like beer, and am always interested in trying new varieties. I was just curious to hear what people recommend, that is, if you happen to be a beer man like myself.

Personally, I recommend a beer brewed in Rochester, New York, called J.W.Dundee's Honey Brown. It's an interesting, flavorful beer that's also really smooth and doesn't have a bitter aftertaste.

Of course, if you're American, and you appreciate beer, you have to be a fan of Sam Adams. There just aren't any other big-name American beers that really hold up against European beers, imho.

Sam Adams just doesn't do it for me.

My fave beer is one I can't get where I live now. Sad

There is a micro-brewery in Houston called St. Arnold (St. Arnold being the patron saint of brewers). They brew a beer called St. Arnold Amber. It is my favorite beer of all time, ever, under any circumstances, ever ever ever.

When I went on the brewery tour the first time, I was going to sample several of their brews. I had the Amber first. I didn't have anything else that day. It was like someone had crept into my mind (damnit) and figured out what my ideal beer flavor would be. And there it was, literally brewery fresh, on tap, in my hand and in my mouth. Ahhhhhhhhhh.

The only problem is, they don't sell their beer outside of Texas, and I don't live in Texas anymore. I go down to Houston about once a year, and I always pick some up. But you have to drink it within about 90 days for optimum flavor (30 days is actually best), so it's not like I can stock up on it.

When I can't get St. Arnold Amber, I mostly stick to Guinness. If the bar doesn't have Guinness, I try to get a Mexican beer, Modelo Negro. After that, for me, it gets pretty grim. Tecate, another Mexican beer, is acceptable, sort of, as long as I don't have too many. If all they have is Miller or Bud, I usually do without.

Crotch, if you like Sam Adams, you should try Fat Tire. It has just recently been released east of the Mississippi. So far it is only available in 22 oz bottles.

Honey Brown does rather poorly in my area; the Craft (Variety) Pack does better.

Incidentally, I am really not a fan of beer, but I can appreciate a good cider.

I second the cider. Especially around the fall.

Heeey, that Honey Brown brewery is about an hour away from where I live. Maybe I can sneak in and score some free beer coupons or something for ya. ;P

On average, I'm not much of an alcohol drinker. But that doesn't stop me from knowing about good beer. Especially since I've lived with the male species in the past who liked to drink it on occasion or to get flat-out stoned off their gourd.

EDIT: Oh, wait. Says here on all my meds "WARNING: DO NOT TAKE WITH ALCOHOL OR WHILE OPERATING HEAVY MACHINERY." So, I guess that rules out my dream of winning a beer chugging contest.

Like some... I'm not a big fan of beer. But I've taken to liking cider a bit now. There's an english pub by my campus that we went to where they actually had Strongbow on tap. It's excellent.

I like Stella a bit too, but it's better if you make a Snakebite out of it with Strongbow.

But otherwise, I don't like any beer at all. I like girly mized drinks or straight shots. :p

Duvel all the way. That's actually quite strong. As for normal beer, probably Jupiler or Hertog Jan. Grolsch is okay as well, though.

German Heineken
and Polish Tyskie. (the best Polish beer by far)

nothing special. the usual central/east Yurpian choices, i guess. i'm not that much of a beer connoisseur.
oh yeah, Guiness of course, but it's pretty expensive out here.

heineken is dutch. and the name isn't necesarily german, dutch sounds a lot like weird german (and probably vice versa).

my beer of choice is tannenzaepfle (brewed near karlsruhe), or dinkelacker. what i really like on a sunny day is a cold schoenbuch hefeweizen (schoenbuch is a brewery in my hometown) but i don't know what weizenbier means in english. gotta look that up sometime.

as i don't know about 80% of the american beers posted here i might actually have to give up my prejudice that american beer sucks and try those first. but however good the beer is, i will never forgive that there's only gonna be american beer sold in the stadiums during the soccer world championship in germany (in my opinion one of the finest beer nations, but i might be biased Wink

)

i'm not a big fan of guinness, a little too bitter and too flat. now what i like is a black & tan (for those of you who don't know: guinness & kilkenny), it pretty much solves the two problems i mentioned. oh, and guinness & cider (black velvet), that is some tasty stuff! but cider alone i don't like so much.

and just as a rule of thumb i always like to support local breweries, i just don't like the big beer companies like becks, heineken (even though those aren't really that bad), budweiser or miller

I have a big soft spot for Mexican beers. My first ever beer was Negro Modelo, which is a really great dark one. Modelo Especial is pretty good too, but a little watery. Corona is skunky, but I dunno, I kind of like it.

Aside from that I also love Grolsh and Amber Bock, and the various Indian beers, because they're cidery. And of course Harp Lager. And anything else, pretty much, if it's on tap.

But NO Budweiser or Coors. NO. And not Rolling Rock, because it tastes like somebody dropped a dead fish in the vat.

Heh...

I live in the Pacific Northwest, so there's absolutely no shortage of great beer around here. I like Alaskan Amber and Red Hook ales especially. Mendocino Brewing Company makes Red Tail Ale. In the summertime, I like a good, unfiltered hefeweizen, like Pyramid's.

Still, there's absolutely nothing wrong with Sam Adams Boston Ale.
