It's a type of Japanese noodle (egg-based, pretty thin; cooks quickly) that is cooked in broth/soup stock. It's usually fairly cheap over here and simple to make; thus it became a staple of many college students.

thank you Ipsa! now i recognize it! we have similar stuff as well, in instant soup packets, but it's called "chinese soups" around here. geez, that's grand european ingnoramusness for ya...

Ramen is pretty awesome. I've lived weeks on just ramen.
Mind you, I didn't have much choice. On the third friday, I hiked 27 fucking kilometers, just to go fishing.
The trip might've been shorter, but I had no idea where the lake was, or if there really was a lake anywhere nearby.

Yes well sorry to disapoint all of those who came here looking for my rants. So yea.. Really I hate kids. With a passion. Yowling meatsacks need to die. REALLY bad when they're trowing tantrums in the corperate evil wheel that's Walmart. I often yell at the kids first, then the parents to shut up their noisy spawn of satan and walk off. The looks I get are priceless.
