Insane Clown Posse: The Amazing Jeckel Brothers
You can hate ICP, but that doesn't change the fact that everyone should hear this album before they die. It is a solid work, a perfect blending of Rap, Rock, Metal, and even some Acoustic work. Well worth you're time, night, day, or dawn

Cool, there are quite a few metal heads in here.

Opeth: Blackwater Park
Mayhem: Wolfs Lair Abyss
Cradle of Filth : V- Empire & Dusk and Her Embrace
Carcass: Heartwork
The Sex Pistols: Nevermind the Bollocks Here's the Sex Pistols
Wolfpack: Lycanthro Punk
The Wildhearts: ... Everything by the Wildhearts really.
Guns N' Roses: Appetite for Destruction
Radiohead: Everything
Elliott Smith: Everything

This list is kind of a cheat, it's really what's been on heavy rotation on my iPod. Oh, and Wu-Tang Clans: 36 Chambers

Indeed it does, I love metal, but after listening to that stuff for over a decade, one does need some respite.

Radiohead are without a doubt one of the greatest bands of the last 10 years and Elliott Smith just resonates with me.

If you like Elliott Smith, do check out Joshua Radin's First between 3rd and 4th EP, his song Winter is one of the most beautiful things you'll hear.

I still stick to Metallica. I don't really care if anybody else thinks it sucks, I like pretty much all of it.

The only real talent they ever had in the band was Mustaine and Burton. As soon as both of them went away, Metallica started 'experimenting', or selling out. Whichever works.

Speaking of Mustaine, I saw Megadeth in concert last night, they were incredible, Mustaine is such a supremely talented player.

Also, has anyone heard the Music's "Welcome to the North" record?

ok, checked him out, and i say yeah, baby!
maybe a tiny bit too mellow at times, but overall that's the kind of singing/songwriting that turns me on.
and you were right about Winter.

I'm going to add in Among the Living by Anthrax as well. I saw Anthrax live yesterday and they were amazing. Really involved the crowd and all that jazz. But pretty much every song on this album is quality thrash metal.

'I am the Law', 'Caught in a Mosh' and 'Among the Living' are the stand out tracks, but you've also got great tracks live 'A Skeleton in the Closet', 'NFL' and 'Indians' on there as well.

Dont worry about feeling sorry for me mate,
Besides maiden appreciate fans like me more, the younger kids who want to listen to the whole collection of their music

The older fans want to go to ozzfest eat a sandwich, listen to wrathchild and go home makes me sick
So wrapped up in the concept that maiden will never be as good as they once were they fail to open their eyes to the awsome music theyre producing rite now

As for another album id say a matter of life and death , truly awsome, Big fan of Brighter than a thousand suns

Look foward to seeing them again in December will be my sixth time Cool

let me quote it once more:
Killswitcher wrote:

i'm glad you like'em.
BUT what you probably don't realize is that going on like "omg, everything they done is awesome" is not fanship. it's fanaticism. a reasonable man cannot possibly claim that each and every one of some 20 albums is exactly on the same level, let alone that every one is brilliant. it's silly.
even being a fan you gotta have some standards. otherwise you allow your idols to become complacent and stop making an effort - if you're gonna love whatever they do, then why bother doing it well? i hope you get my line of reasoning.
it won't hurt your credibility if you admit to yourself that even Maidens can have a worse day.
and who knows, maybe looking at your idols from a slight distance (the word objectivity suggests itself) will make you appreciate them more, because you will have seen a fuller picture of them.
i say try it and see for yourself.

It just seems to me that the intent of this thread is defeated by anyone who lists more than one album.

And listing all of the albums by any artist supremely defeats the intent.

I have to agree with Salvatore, you have to make distinctions.

Having said all that, here is my list of 24 albums you have to listen to before you die.

No, not really.

It is hard for me to pick one album that you need to hear before you die. I haven't posted to this thread because I have been unable to winnow it down to that single album.

I still don't know what it is. So I won't post one.

Yet.

If I were to post two, one would have to be a recording of Beethoven's Ninth Symphony. To me that is the single greatest piece of music of all time, in any genre.

The problem then becomes, which recording? There have to be scores (=D) to choose from. I currently have no idea which orchestra/conductor I would pick.

The Singing Math Teacher Guy wrote:
One day I am going to learn the bass part to the Ode to Joy, even if I never get to sing it with the other three parts and a chorus and an orchestra. But if I ever did get to sing it with the other three parts and a chorus and an orchestra, it would be one of the top five moments in my life, no matter what other moments my life were to hold.

The other album would probably be one by a 20th century type band, maybe from the Doors, or Led Zepplin, or Yes, or The Beatles, or Talking Heads, or The Rolling Stones, or Tom Waits, or The Who, or some other band I can't even think of right now.

And then there is the possibility of some kind of compliation, like maybe the soundtrack to O Brother, Where Art Thou?

Or some other album that represents and era or a genre or a place in space or time. Like the Monterry Pop Festival or the Concert at Altamont. (Woodstock is too obvious.)

And then there is the idea of, do I try and come up with an album that is just fantastic, even if most of you have heard it already, or do I try to come up with something that you would not have heard of otherwise?

Sigh.

So many choices, so little time.

I mean, so hard to narrow it down.

Tiger Army Power of Moonlight or self-titled, either is pretty good stuff

Guttermouth has a few really choice tunes

i dont remember claiming that all maidens songs are equally brilliant nor did i claim that the albums are equally brilliant, all im saying is some of the older fans think that way , especially on the maiden forum

I believe the thread is Albums you need to listen to befor you die ..... i exagerated because i didnt think anyone would pinpoint me and start bitching... basicly the punchline was i love maiden , didnt really want anyone taking that up with me in the same way you did

Also Lord of Light is a truly awsome song from the new album Very Happy
