Ok, everybody is entitled to an opinion, especially on the internet, where free speech is the number one thing... but when it comes to Fallout...

No. I'm saying the story in KOTOR is alot better than in the Fallouts. I'm gonna say this in a way that's the least spoiler intended as possibly, but it's very hard to make a good, applicable story with a Everyman character that's supposed to inject you into the game. Fallout and Fallout 2 are games that are like, "Okay you're this guy who just happened to come along and save the world. Nothing is particularly special about you - you just happened to be there."

KOTOR 1 and 2 make the player feel essential to the story. Plus the story was just better in general, even though the second one felt like it lacked alot. Probably because you're nowhere near as important as you were in the first game.

Well, the main story isn't based upon your actions... 3rd world war, people live in Vaults, water-chip broke down (unless you played Fallout 2 and had that special encounter...), evil dude trying to take over the world...

I mean, that's all set, how you deal with it is up to you.

We all know the backstory, but that backstory isn't great because it wasn't the developers who originally thought of those ideas, or even change those ideas from the people they borrowed very much. That's like saying KOTOR was good cause it was set in the Star Wars universe - the devs didn't make the Star Wars universe. George Lucas and his producers did. An apocalyptic world filled with people living in vaults, tribes and raiding parties was popularized by Mad Max way waaaay before Fallout, and the basic premise of there being a 3rd world war and Vault dwellers was already in a game that preceded Fallout called Wasteland. The devs admit to being heavily influenced by Wasteland, and I think a couple of guys who worked on Wasteland went on to Black Isle to help make the SPECIAL gameset system.

Like I said, KOTOR makes you vital to the story. A story isn't necessarily better because it's more linear. Fallout's story isn't greatly effected by your actions - just the subsequent quests are. The only changes that occur are just P.S stuff. "The Vault dweller saved the world. This is what happened after..." Having a kid from banging Bishop's wife/daughter, a new trading town opening up, something being dedicated to you, your village dying or surviving, etc.. But either way, you save the world. Same thing in KOTOR - you either save the galaxy or you conquer it. But through every part of the story, you are absolutely essential. The galaxy hinges on your choices.

oh yeah, that ruined much of the fun.
the whole trio of sith lords was a disappointment,
none of them lived up to the level set by Malak. he was the kind of evil boss you want to meet at the end.

and to add something to the fallout vs kotor controversy, i think one thing that definitely improves the general feel of any rpg is the interaction with your party members, and these were really top level in both kotors.
(don't you love it when handmaiden and visas marr are jealous of each other?)

Not really. Buy the Bard's Tale on ps2, instead.

I think he was joking, cause I heard Bard's Tale sucked.

You play a person called the Vault Dweller in Fallout 1, because he has to leave the safety of the Vault and venture out into the post apocalyptic world to find a replacement the water chip that malfunctioned in your Vault. The game was released with a one month game time limit to beat it, because that is when the water supply would run out and everyone in the Vault would die, but later patches made it so you can play and explore as long as you want.

To not spoil the story, you get sidetracked and save the world, then return back to Vault 13 with a working water chip. To show their unending gratitude for saving them from the painful death of dehydration and shielding them further from the horrors of the Wastes, the loving Vault dwellers exile you. Forever.

Bitches. The claim is that the Wastes have "changed you too much".

The legendary dweller goes northeast (Fallout is set in California and the west part of the Midwest) to found a village called Arroyo. In Fallout 2 you play the Vault dweller's great grandchild. Or was it great great? Either way, he's been long dead. I think around 90 years.

It's a great RPG because of the sheer amount of stuff you can do. It has "little touches", like Metal Gear Solid does. Did you know in MGS2 if you stay out in rain too long you'll catch a cold? You can catch a flu too if you set it on Hard and higher. You need to find cold medicine to stop sneezing and alerting enemies until it's cured, and contracting a flu will stay with you for the rest of the game. Fallout is like that. The first time I played Fallout 2 I was a pretty boy sniper and I used my charm to get money, information and just bitches in general. I banged Bishop's daughter and wife, then stole his money. I banged the farmer's daughter, was forced to marry her and then got her killed to inherit her dowry. I also became a pornstar.

Second time around I became a boxing champion and a kung fu legend.

Also, you can shoot little kids and become the Scourge of the Wastes and hang out with bad guys.

Fallout had some interesting extra-source material. Don't read it unless you've beaten the games though cause it spoils alot, but you find out the Vaults were created mostly as experiments. One Vault contained all the world's important minds, another contained nothing but men, another nothing but women, another nothing but children, a vault with one water chip designed to malfunction at a certain time (Haw haw haw...), a vault with 1,000,000 water chips, etc.

Let me correct you just a little bit. First of all, you had 150 days to find the Waterchip. This is not your final quest though. After you returned it, they send you back out again to save the world, which you have to do within 500 days... and then when you return they kick you out because you are the living proof that people can exist outside the Vault and they are afraid that too many people will leave the Vault as well, and then they will become extinct... bitches...

And Fallout 2 is 80 years after Fallout.

Now, you little horney helmet dude... you can't bang every chick you encounter. There are certain people you can have sex with (both male and female ofcourse, but you can't have as much sex if you're male as opposed to being female). Having sex with them is mainly functional... like, getting something cheaper after you screwed the dude...

And yes, you will get herpes in real life... well, you will, most other people won't... Razz

And no, there are no camera's in Vault 69 (the one with a 999 chicks and 1 guy)...

I always tell myself that I should play these games again, using a completely different character and strategy, but I never get around to it. Maybe it's just the fact that I don't have as much time to play games anymore. *shrug*

Are you kidding me? I figured it out after the first talk with the jedi masters. But some people, like my friend had absolutely no idea until being captured by the Leviathan.

Spoiler:
"You may find yourself walking down an all too famialr path."

Spoiler:
"You and Bastilla share a great bond." x7

Spoiler:
"You are much closer to Revan than you think Apprentice..."

The list goes on. Besides, some people may not have figured it out yet, and I dont want to get lynched the ones who haven't from this big/small spoiler.

Well you get a "bad rep" as a gigolo, but it doesn't really do anything to affect the game. I think some people in a really small town would look at you differently or something.

Another downside is that you piss off Bishop, because no matter what he finds out that he banged his daughter, wife or both of them. If you have a high charisma rating like I did she'll basically rape you - especially if you became a porn star. You can either have sex with her or she'll fib about you trying to kill her and get her dad's goons on you. So I banged her and banged his wife to get into his safe.

I had sex with a farm boy in my second run and his dad caught me, and I had to marry him. I got his ass killed fast.

That's not cool. That's just random.

I'd rather be someone absolutely badass.
