This is a hard question. My first instinct is to say Fallout and Fallout 2 just because of the sheer amount of stuff you can do in it and how much it can affect your future gameplay, but I think the best thing holding an RPG together is it's story, which brings me to KOTOR or BG2.
I say KOTOR. _________________ "The time for talk is over. Now we must kung fu..."

You're saying Fallout and Fallout 2 have no story?
Ok, everybody is entitled to an opinion, especially on the internet, where free speech is the number one thing... but when it comes to Fallout... _________________

I think what he's saying is that KOTOR is a more conventional linear narrative in which you participate. These games tend to have stronger stories and plotlines. By contrast Fallout is a series where the story is defined by your own actions. Usually in games like this the plot and writing is less detailed and involving out of necessity. I guess it really depends on which you prefer. I like both styles personally. KOTOR 2 should have been the greatest computer RPG of all time, but sadly it was released unfinished. The underlying brilliance of it versus it's anorexic structure always pisses me off.
Gah, I can't decide between Baldur's Gate, Fallout, KOTOR, FF7 or Morrowind. I might wait till I've played and finished Oblivion to answer this. Interesting that nobody thought Rommel meant pen and paper RPGs. _________________

The story in KOTOR was very well made, but the story in KOTOR 2 just sucked, Fallout was fun, but KOTOR seeemed better, mainly story-wise. _________________ Only the strongest will survive.

Well, the main story isn't based upon your actions... 3rd world war, people live in Vaults, water-chip broke down (unless you played Fallout 2 and had that special encounter...), evil dude trying to take over the world...
I mean, that's all set, how you deal with it is up to you. _________________

KOTOR 2 didn't suck but it wasn't as good as the first. You don't really feel as important as you do in the first one. Also, was the Darth Nihilus battle as as friggin' pie, or what? This guy kills planets, and yet you can whoop him in 10 seconds....u know what? the whole game is too frigging easy.
But the best rpg's are the KOTOR games.
I've never played fallout, but now im interested... _________________ You forget one thing: rock crushes scissors. But paper covers rock... and

I'm not saying KOTOR 2 sucked, just its plot. And yes Nihlus was easy, and disappointing. I mean hes on the cover! He's the most noticable thing on the cover, and he's the first major Sithlord to die. WTF? _________________ Only the strongest will survive.

Hehe, I just dug out the CD again myself. Gonna have a listen...
LMAO. These are great. It almost makes me want to play the game again. I will refrain from posting anymore quotes just in case some other people have yet to discover the wavs.
Ah, it's easiest just to run the html file that's on the disc. Makes it simple to access all the content. _________________ Context is everything. |

Sorry for being off-topic, but... The best RPGs in my oppinion are Neverwinter Nights with both Expation Pack (the original campaign rather sucked) and Morrowind. Followed by Star Wars: KotOR II and BALDUR'S GATE II: SHADOWS OF AMN. I favor the second KotOR over the first manly because SW:KotOR's storyline had some elements salvaged form Neverwinter's original campaign witch was somewhat uninspired (examples of such elements are the old powerful fallen race, the rakatans equivalent to the Old Ones and the betrayal of Bastila equivalent to Aribeth). _________________
