The Borg can also be considered sentient, as they're run by a hive queen who's clearly intelligent and self-aware, and they all share her attributes. But they don't have names. Not while they're still a part of the collective.

It has been indicated that the predator is a Reptile like species.
If so then it is possible that the smell through a similar system.
If you look at the picture posted of our big hunter you can see what appear as triangle shaped holes in the inside of his cheeks near his mouth.
Its likely that it smells through thoughs and that such scents are directed and enhanced by his large inner mouth surface area.
As for the mask I believe it to be a device that compresses the atmosphere of Low G worlds to be more comparable to their homeworld.
Since it is theorized that the predator homeworld has a higher gravity then earth the pressure on their atmosphere would be greater , so for them breathing on the surface of earth would be like us being at high altitudes where there is less oxygen. We can technically still breath it just becomes more laboured and we get winded faster. |

Why would the predator take his mask off would be upto the predator!
I guess in predator 1 it was a sign of respect and a challenge.
In number to the predators mask was removed by Danny and
in AVP again it was a sign of respect and then the Alien Queen attacked and the mask was left.
On the same line of though, why wouldn't predator wear a fur coat in the antartic. Because they are Tough Mother F*ckers. |

And because their body mesh provide them enough heat. The preds from 1 & 2 movies seemt to preffer the heat and the humidity. It would been a sign of weakness if they went on the first hunt warmly dressed, but I'm sure they didn't like the arctic climate.
