NOT the neurons. The nervous tissue contains two kinds of cells:
neurons which never divide (very few do, and that in the first years of life)
and glial cells (it's a romanian term, I don't know the english one) , which can divide. Their purpose is to feed, to sustain the healthyneurons, and to phagocyte the damaged ones.

Okay, that sounds alot more plausible. I'd like to see where that came from. Not that I'm a skeptic, I admit my knowledge of biology is still at the grade 11 level.

Truth be told. Scientist have managed to restor a portion of mouse's spine... Soon this procedure will be refined for humans, thus we may be able to restore brain or other nerve damage.
