I found something very amusing today, and wholly angering.
We have a Pops Concert every year in my highschool choir, but usually the music consists of about every era and genre you could think of that's not, well, classical. Most of the songs are featured small groups, duets, or solos, and it's all fun. Well, this year, I decided to take one of my favorite songs from any musical (well, movie now as well), and sing it. It's "All That Jazz" featured in the musical Chicago. So, I take it to my director, and she's thrilled...except for one small problem. It talks about gin, and at one point, garters and girdles. Well, she doesn't think it's a problem, considering the twenties era was known for such things, and it's nothing raunchy at all. Guess what? Idea completely thrown out by the principle of our school.
Isn't it funny that in a school, boys can tote their shirts saying messages like, "Everybody loves a well trimmed bush" but a song saying that she knows a spot where the "gin is cold and the piano's hot" is COMPLETELY unacceptable. Oh no! Why, the "playful" messages stamped out in blue across every testosterone filled chest isn't at all anything worthy of discipline...We can just pretend we didn't see it. There's every form of degrading messages stamped across these Hollister clad boys from sex to alcohol, but I can't sing a damn jazz song? I don't really understand it...and I'm thoroughly annoyed by it.
This may just happen to mean war...I think...if I don't become a pansy.

Hmm. Impropable.

What I think?

He(she?) has a very old and a very personal problem with that song. His now dead wife's(sp?) favourite song, or something spaghetti-romantic like that.

Snoop around.

Do 'Sweet Transvestite' from the Rocky Horror Picture Show instead. And tell him/her you're a member of Gay Witches For Abortion. That's what I'd do.

Sing the song anyways. What's the worst that could happen?

I'm only offended that you would think my standards are that low.

Should sing Monty Python's "Every Sperm is Sacred". How can a song that so eloquently expresses the view of the Catholic Church be offensive?

or at least monty python's "penis song"! it's only a little humorous songy.

it's swell to have a stiffy
it's divine to own a dick
from the tiniest little tadger
to the world's biggest prick!
