Okay, here's the plan. I figured that, since there's so many nationalities browsing these forums, it would be nice if all of us translated one specific comic into our own language(s).
To combine pleasure with joy, I suggest we take this one... so that we all learn how to swear in different languages.
So, translate this comic into another language, or - if you're a native speaker of English and happen to know no other languages, your own dialect, accent or slang.
I myself am particularly looking forward to a possible Finnish translation by Digitaaliklosetti and a Malay translation by Angelus Raptor... And Ipsa, if you'd translate it into ancient Greek, you'll become immortal!
Oh, and don't forget to translate the name of the comic (Alien Loves Predator) and the title of the episode (#9 Pres' favorite word) as well! _________________ The Justified Ancient of Mu Mu |

Okay, I'll start myself with a Swedish translation.
Rymdvarelsen älskar Rovdjuret
#9 Prestons älsklingsord
Aramor, could you please do the Dutch translation? I'm working on an Icelandic translation, but I'm very busy right now, so that'll take some time. _________________ The Justified Ancient of Mu Mu

Sure thing Chief, was already hoping you wouldn't do it...
Ok, didn't spend that much attention to it... kinda hard when your girlfriend keeps talking to you over MSN... as you can see, in Holland we use a lot of english words... you might think I was just lazy but we (well, at least me and a lotta my friends) use the word fuck the same way as Pres did...

Here is the supar awesumo Japanese version up for consumption:
For those who know Japanese and want to critique me: I took a year of Japanese in high school and have been doing independent study ever since so I am no expert.
The reason Preston says "watashi" in the first panel is because he is reading the text directly from the screen, and I don't think a website would refer to their patrons as "ore" or "boku".
And another thing is that the Japanese have many ways of saying the word "fuck" and all variations of it but I decided to go with the romanji version that is a mirror of the tied and true English version that Preston likes, so "faku" and "fakingu" were used and are big and bolded in the last panel.
I also added some manga sound effects, which is why Preston is saying "eeettooo" like a English hmmm or siiighh. PAN is of course a sudden impact, a hit and the squggly "furufuru" is to express that Preston is so mad that he's shaking. I also wrote in the "Ah! Arigatou!" instead of typing it because in essence he just slipped that in very quickly admist the yelling he was doing and I wanted to imply that by writing it in instead of typefacing it.
Preston's Japanese does sound like a gaijin would say it, thus making the comic strip a tad bit funnier than the English version. He is a gaijin afterall, to Earth that is!
And who else crawled into a corner and wept while this place was down? I thought it was a conspiracy, really. I translate this strip and I come back here and the place is nuked. Bad, bad luck, I'm tellin' ya! _________________ plz to be visiting my board of predator debauchery |

I was pondering on doing a Swedish and Finnish one, but I see one has been done and the other is in the works. Hmm. I could do an Italian one, but I am still learning, so I am not sure i'd do it correctly.
Hm, well.... Maybe i'll do it in a couple months when i've learned a bit more..
(The notion of Preston cussing in Italian really makes me want to lick the screen.) _________________ Capitalization is the difference between "I had to help my uncle Jack off a horse..." and "I had to help my uncle jack off a horse..." |

No, do the Finnish one as well, please. It looks like Digit is not going to bother with it. _________________ The Justified Ancient of Mu Mu |

Still kinda working on an ancient Greek one. I began working on it, but I got derailed. So after I clear some things up, it'll be finished...! _________________ "Yeast devil! Back to the oven that baked you!" |
