|
|
So, I was having this conversation with some friends about what movies have the best first 5 minutes. We agreed on a few. I'm sure there's more that we didn't come up with. So...discuss. I've thrown up a poll with the few that we had, but feel free to vote 'Other' and post your own faves! WOO!
Oh, I guess technically I should put spoiler warnings, just in case people haven't seen these movies? So, the movies I'm talking about are: The Matrix, X-Men 2, Star Wars (Episode 4), and Jaws. Don't read below if you don't want to know about the first 5-ish minutes of these movies.
In no particular order:
Spoiler:
The Matrix: Jumping right in on Trinity's wire-fu and combat was pretty awesome.
X-Men 2: Nightcrawler *bamphing* through the white house. Who thought that they'd get it so damned RIGHT?
Star Wars: Nothing beats that first opening crawl 'A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away...' followed by the pan to the ship that never stops coming and the space battle.
Jaws: Really, this is on the list for the "punchline" so to speak. Nice and serene skinny dipping scene then a girl brutally ripped up for a meal. We don't even see anything and it's just horrifying.
|
So, who else has an awesome first 5 minutes to recommend? Bueller? Bueller? Anyone?? _________________ "SUPERMAN HATES MILK WITH THE FIERY INTENSITY OF A THOUSAND SUNS!"

I think one of my all time favorite movie intros has to be from The Big Hit. It's kinda nasty if you're squeamish, but they just make hacking up a corpse with a chainsaw really funny.
If I think of a better intro, I'll post it. This one just really stood out. _________________ "Yeast devil! Back to the oven that baked you!" |

The intro from The Lord of the Rings ofcourse. With Galadriel narrating that part and the Last Alliance marching towards their (Mt.) doom... _________________

The Matrix would be my choice out of the list, but for the all-time best opener, I'd have to go with Kill Bill. Even though you know it's going to happen it's still a shock when Spoiler: | Beatrix gets shot in the head and her blood spatters the floor. | . _________________ The depressing thing about tennis is that no matter how good I get, I'll never be as good as a wall.

I know it's a remake, and it was kinda crap compared to the original, but the first 5 mintues (or so) of the new Dawn of the Dead made me foam at the mouth. It went from happy couple f-ing in the shower after a rough day at work, lying in bed, planning their next few days, to the boyfriend getting his throat ripped out by the little neighbor girl, a chaotic escape from the neighborhood. This all culminates into one of the best crash scenes I've ever seen, a gas guzzling SUV rams into a driver of a sensible compact car and they both crash into gas tanks which causes a huge explosion (in the theater i wet my pants in excitement, though when I got the DVD, I almost missed it because I don't have a 2000" plasma TV). _________________ All I want, to know, all I want, with just a touch of my burning hand I send my astro zombies to rape the land. The Dawn of the Dead remake did have a very cool start.
But I love, love, the start of Desperado. Steve Buscemi monologue, Banderas kicking arse, than playing guitar. It's fantastic. |

| Definately gotta go with Jaws, but since that one is already on the list I'd have to go with Reservoir Dogs as a second choice, after the initial intro at the diner its just chaos. |
