Hi, I'm Meijin
Yes, Google Earth is quite ironic...my colleagues are using it to teach degree level geography, but some of my colleagues from China, who are urban morphologists, may be able to see cityscapes in China that they are not allowed access to when in China (that is, they are not very easily allowed access to city plans from govt planning departments - unless they know the right people)...and this probably goes for other people and places too...Google Earth is therefore SUBVERSIVE! (background sounds of certain govts pulling their hair out)
but roll on Google Universe...(I actually know where we are in the universe because I have the National Geographic map of the universe they did about 5 years ago - 'we' are in the lower righthand corner...)
Google Underwater(world) might be cool too _________________ I may be synthetic but I'm not stupid |

If you like Google Earth I highly recommend NASA World Wind which has even more features. It only runs on Windows now, but it's open source and the forums show a lot of people who are working to port it to Linux and Mac.
As for the subversiveness of freely available highly detailed satelite images, this Register article talks about it. For example in the US you can get great shots of Groom Lake (Area 51), the White House and the CIA. |

I really like it to help me find places. I get lost easily and sometimes forget road names. So, being able to look up the place really quickly and then follow the path I'd take, makes it a lot easier to do later on. _________________

For linux:
1) Learn to code a bit, not excessivley, but a bit
2) DL wine from winehq.com
3) Try running directly off Wine, should work, if not see step 4
4) Use your new coding knowledge to modify wine and hence make it work
(Side note: I use ONLY. Linux. CentOS 4 to be precise... and for games: Cedega 4.4.1) |

I have a similar poster...
It shows the same picture as NG's (The main picture)...
Only mine sports a red arrow with the text "You are here"...
Kind of puts things in the right perspective... |

^^ only problem with that is that these are from what, 3 years ago, and the pics really aren't live data or really updated. So if you build a time machine there, and go back and hunt them down, then you could stalk them... _________________
