soo.. i`ve never been to one, but i really want to try out the food (considering that i just might be taking a course abroad next summer in greece).
anyone know a good place to go to? preferably in the city.

Greek restuarants in the city tend to be overpriced. There's a bunch along northern blvd. in Bayside. I've been to this one http://www.queenstribune.com/archives/diningguide/reviews/mythos.htm
the different cheese and yogurt spreads they have are very good.
There's a large greek community in Astoria too, but I don't really know that area. There's a beer garden there I been meaning to go to tho.

What was the London restaurant in the 1970s called where you paid what you thought the meal was worth? There's a story on AFP about a restaurant called "Little Bay", and AFP is saying this is a "novel idea". But it's not a new idea - that other restaurant did it first, as far as I know, and there's also an Indian restaurant in New York today which does the same thing.
