I made the same mistake. It's like a collection of set pieces. Where the fark's the plot!? Sure, there are some hot girls. Well I am not to big on horror movies, I have always been more of an action & scifi kind of guy, but I must say that Event Horizon and The first Alien movie(the first time you watch it) Are among the scariest moves I've ever seen. Yeah they are both Sci-fi horror movies, sue me. _________________ Hey, whatever you do, do your best.

Regarding the comments about Dead Alive/Braindead: I saw that movie about 3 months ago, and I hated it. I like campy horror movies (I own the aforementioned Killer Klowns, as well as some other golden oldies like Frogs and the original Little Shop of Horrors), and I like grossout comedic ones that revel in their violence, like Jason X, but I just couldn't stand Dead Alive. On IMDb I gave it a 3, and the only reason it was even that high is because of the "I kick ass in the name of the Lord!" sequence. Why couldn't it be legitimately amusing, like Jackson's later effort The Frighteners? _________________ I am what I am, and that's all that I am.

I LOVE horror movies. Thusfar I liked Ju-on more then the Grudge, and I think the best scary movie for the time was Exorcist.
I hear a rumor that they are going to do a Freddy Vrs Jason Vrs Ash movie. Personally, I think it would be hilarious if they did. _________________ It's nothing a well aimed flame thrower can't take care of. |

Ewww, that's not the one I would have started anyone on Argento with. Give Opera a shot before you give up entirely. Minus the pure-d "What the FUCK?" ending, that is. Argento buffs seem to hate it with a red-hot passion, but just thinking about the premise is enough to give me a chill.
Movies that flat-out scared me, hmm... The only one I can think of that scared me enough to make me stop watching and walk away was The Evil Dead. A fair amount of that can probably be chalked up to being female, and anyone who's seen it knows exactly what I mean.
For creepiness rather than outright scariness, Ju-on is a pleasure. Not one of my favorites, but what they just did to it has to be an instant classic....
They're running Jason X on SciFi right now, and I just ran across it at the point where the guy sets off the charges in about the 1.5 billionth attempt to finally get rid of Jason. But this IS Sci-Fi, so it's heavily edited, and his big, dramatic tough-guy line is rendered as "Hey! Airhole!"

I went in looking forward to and wanting to like that movie, because while musically he's not in my usual entertainment 'bubble,' I think Rob Zombie is just amazingly creative and talented. So I was really disappointed to find I was watching a Texas Chainsaw Massacre retread. Yes, I know the difference between retread and homage; I believe this movie crossed that line. Hey Bernie, you wanna see something REALLY scary? Check out The Descent - the latest movie by the director of Dog Soldiers which someone here also mentioned. This one is way better, though! Not just creepy & scary, but also quite a good movie with good characters & acting.
Classic cool scary movie (or rather, scene) is the part in the Twilight Zone-movie with John Lithgow as a paranoid passenger on a plane, who thinks he's seen a Gremlin on the wings! I also love Evil Dead II, but that is more comedy than horror... |
