I'm the owner and lead programmer of AvP: The MUD, which has been running over 8 years now. I was only recently turned on to this site, and decided to share it with everyone on AvP: The MUD. I am not one to self promote, but since the original poster didnt really explain and you would like more info, I figure this is a good time to explain more.
AvP: The MUD is a text based multiplayer roleplaying game. MUDs - Multi User Dungeon/Dimension - were the only option to online multipalyer RPGs before the graphical games like EverQuest and Ultima Online and the like came about. They're still popular enough these days, since almost all of them are free to play.
The concept is pretty straight forward - everything is text. You move by typing directions (north, east, south, west, up, down). You see room descriptions and what is inside then when you enter a room. You can pick up and use objects and equipment, and fight NPCs (mobiles, or "mobs"), and other players. The game is all about race wars, and is open PvP (5 hour protection for new characters). We do not require roleplaying in-character, but you are welcome to do so.

MUDs are for chicks that don't have money or a cool boyfriend to buy them a decent enough video card for an MMORPG.
