You could already do that in Soldier of Fortune. And in GTAIII if you enabled the "more gore" cheat. _________________

What about Postal 2? Thats a kick ass game with tons of gore and violent ways to do your grocery shopping (the first task in the game, by the way, or at least in the demo...). Plus the ability to run around with your pants unzipped.... and peeing on people trying to shower.... strange, but fun.... _________________

You just watch, some uptight political figure is going to somehow stumble on to this thread and ban all the games you guys just mentioned. Now THAT would really suck. _________________ Grrrr...RAAAAARRRGHHH!!!

I tend to agree with Inkmonkey regarding the content of the game. It's not just violence; it's graphically killing innocent bystanders. And it's not just sex; it's getting it on with a hooker, and then beating her to death to get your money back.
Yes. it is theoretically possible to play the game as a moral individual, but that certainly is not how it was designed.
I have long been a proponent of the notion that graphic games don't really hurt anyone, but even I have to wonder if they are perhaps going a little far nowadays. To me, ripping out your opponents spine or mowing down legions of zombies with a machine gun is nothing because it is more outlandish. But when you have these games which strive for realism, things just get a little more disturbing to me. GTA never really appealed to me because the notion of killing cops and beating hookers just doesn't do much for me.
That's my two cents. |
I have to agree. I got Vice City rigt after I got my PS2, cause it was cheap ($3.99, used) but I just couldn't get into it. There's no real reason for the killing and stuff. I liked driving around in it, but that's about it. Even the missions, I just had trouble with. I like more sense to the violence and I like the violence to be a little more outlandish.

Yeah, but it only takes three shots to do that in Cold Winter. That's unrealistic. Plus, there's very little oppurtunity to hurt any innocent bystanders. _________________ You can read my various fan fictions here.

Well, not just that. A pistol in Cold Winter will decapitate and shoot off someone's limbs with only a few shots. _________________ You can read my various fan fictions here.

Is there a serial killer game? Y'know, a game where you take the role of a Jason or Freddie style horror movie slasher. Wander around town, killing teenagers. Extra points for ironic deaths and for the level of depravity the youngsters got themselves into before you make a hat out of their lower intestines.
Damn, that would be a sweet game. Let you design your own Sociopath using the Tony Hawk engine. Someone get Rockstar on the line, I've got their next best seller here! _________________

And don't forget, only kill virgins.
Unless you're going with Jamie Kennedy... then you should only try to kill people who just lost their virginity, drink beer and do drugs and say "I'll be right back." _________________

Personally, I have a lot of friends who play increasingly violent video games who can still function completely normally in society. (I'm more of an RPG kind of gal and GTA isn't very appealing to me for extended amounts of time)
It's just Jack Thompson's stance on the issue that irritates me. He only goes after games with sex. Not even interactive sex, but implications of sex. The violence only seems to be thrown in as an afterthought. His next target seems to be Killer 7. You can find a severed head in a dryer but fully-clothed, neck-up sex with suggestive sounds is taboo. And then the game developer gets slammed with lawsuits. Living in IL, with the ban on 17 year olds buying M rated games (It's essentially slapping an AO on all M-ratings across the board), I haven't seen much of a difference. The younger teenagers who want to play M-rated games can still find ways to get them, even if their siblings are 17. I don't think that kids ought to be exposed to things like that but I don't think it's being gone about in the right way. _________________ I've got a lovely bunch of coconuts... |
